Chapter 1: Even a Rich Heir Has to Be a Simp

“You ungrateful little bastard! Crushing you would be as easy as crushing an ant!”

Splash!

Song Liang had barely opened his eyes when someone threw a glass of wine straight into his face, followed by an angry shout.

“I’m giving you one last chance. Are you doing it or not?!”

He quietly opened his eyes and found himself in a spacious, luxurious room. Beyond the balcony lay the pitch-black sea. The floor swayed slightly beneath his feet; he was clearly out on the water.

Song Liang wiped his face and looked at the unfamiliar man glaring viciously at him.

“I zoned out. Say that again—do what?”

The man choked on his words. “Are you fucking with me?”

“I really didn’t hear you,” Song Liang said sincerely. “Tell me again. Maybe I’ll agree.”

The man restrained himself and forced down his anger.

“Drug Xiao Ji, then sleep with him. I’ll arrange for reporters to barge in. All you have to do is put on a convincing performance. Understand?”

“I understand.” Song Liang nodded. “But I’m not doing it.”

“…”

The man’s eyes reddened with rage. He grabbed Song Liang by the collar.

“Song Liang, do you have no self-respect? Xiao Ji’s getting engaged today, and you’re still hopelessly devoted to him?”

Song Liang remained perfectly calm.

“Oh.”

“…”

The man exploded. “Are you fucking deaf? I said Xiao Ji’s getting engaged to someone else!”

Song Liang frowned in confusion. “Am I supposed to chip in for a wedding gift?”

“…”

Xiao Wenyu stared blankly at the young man before him, wondering whether he’d been possessed.

Everyone in Wenhai’s wealthy circles knew that Song Liang, the illegitimate son of the nouveau-riche Song family, was in love with Xiao Ji, the Xiao family’s future heir. He’d shamelessly chased him for seven years like a devoted simp. Yet despite the men and women who came and went at Xiao Ji’s side, Xiao Ji had never taken an interest in him.

Still, Song Liang refused to give up. Every year, he found some way to sneak into Xiao Ji’s birthday banquet, brazenly offered him a gift, and wished him a happy birthday. He had no concern for his dignity whatsoever.

Only last year, when Xiao Ji threw away his gift in front of everyone and had him sent away, had he finally quieted down for a while.

But this year, Xiao Wenyu had merely lied that Xiao Ji wanted him there, and the idiot had eagerly followed him over again.

Now Xiao Wenyu was telling him that Xiao Ji was getting engaged to someone else, and he wasn’t reacting at all? He even looked a little impatient?

With no other option, Xiao Wenyu resorted to outright threats.

“Listen to me. Whether you want to or not, you’re doing it. Otherwise, you won’t live to see tomorrow!”

“Then I’ll tell on you,” Song Liang replied calmly.

“You don’t even have an invitation. Step outside that door and security will grab you. Who’s going to believe you?”

“There are cameras,” Song Liang said.

Xiao Wenyu gave a sinister smile. “No cameras.”

Oh. No cameras.

Song Liang lashed out with a kick.

“No cameras, and you still have the nerve to act like that with me?”

“…”

With a crash, the man flew backward into the glass coffee table. It shattered across the floor, and he lost consciousness on the spot.

Song Liang was about to check whether he was faking when a piercing alarm suddenly sounded in his ears.

【Beep—】

【Warning! Warning! The main plot of the beginner scenario “The Superstar’s Secret Husband Is a Hundred-Billion CEO” has undergone a major change. Scenario difficulty has increased by 85%. Current rating: A. Host, please log out immediately!】

Song Liang paused. Before he could investigate, an electronic voice roared inside his head.

【Host Song Liang! Tell me what you just did!】

“Kicked someone?”

【You kicked someone and turned an F-rated beginner scenario into an A?! Does that sound reasonable to you?!】

“…”

Song Liang raised his eyebrows. The thing in his head called itself the Universally Hated Villain System.

When it had first approached him, it had promised that all he needed to do was play a villain and oppose other people every day. In return, he would earn points and come back from the dead.

Instead, he’d opened his eyes to a glass of wine in his face. He considered himself fairly good-tempered—he’d even listened to the man rant for ages before finally kicking him. Who would have thought that one casual kick would trigger an alarm at the system center and raise the scenario’s difficulty to A?

He was baffled too.

“Maybe something’s wrong with the system center?”

【Something’s wrong with you! Do you know who you just kicked?!】

“…A relative of yours?”

【Get lost! I’m a system. How would I have relatives?! He’s related to the main top!】

Song Liang arched an eyebrow. “Aren’t I the main villain? Why can’t I kick one of the main top’s relatives?”

【Who said you were the main villain?】

“…” Song Liang’s expression shifted. “Then what am I?”

【Cannon-fodder villain number seven!】

“…”

“I want to quit,” Song Liang said evenly.

【Too late!】 3085 snapped. 【If you don’t finish the plot, you’ll be stuck here for the rest of your life!】

Song Liang frowned. “So what exactly am I supposed to do?”

【You’re the main top’s simp. Your job is to compete with the main bottom for his man】

“Didn’t you say I was a rich heir? Why do I still have to be a simp?”

【Because his dad is richer than yours!】

“Then let my dad simp for his dad.”

“…”

Song Liang nudged the man on the floor with his foot.

“So who is this, exactly?”

【…Xiao Wenyu】

Song Liang raised his eyebrows. Now he knew which part of the plot this was.

As a villain with an unrequited crush, the original owner had become a pawn in Xiao Wenyu’s struggle with Xiao Ji for power. Under Xiao Wenyu’s threats and inducements, he’d drugged the main top. But thanks to the force of the plot, the person who slept with the main top wasn’t the original owner—it was the main bottom, who had entered the wrong room.

After the marriage alliance fell through, the original owner had lied his way into becoming the main top’s fiancé. From there, he’d embarked on a string of idiotic, self-destructive schemes, eventually dying at the hands of the main top’s revenge.

Song Liang’s mission was to fulfill the original owner’s wishes: win Xiao Ji over, marry into the Xiao family, clear his name, and change the fate that doomed him to die.

But now he’d kicked the drugging plot clean out of existence. He hadn’t secured an excuse to attach himself to the main top, and he’d offended Xiao Wenyu.

【This man is a villain through and through! Rotten to the core! He definitely won’t let you off!】

The more 3085 spoke, the angrier it became.

【If you’d at least established a connection with the main top before kicking him, things wouldn’t be this bad!】

“He’s already been kicked,” Song Liang said calmly. “Let’s run.”

He tugged at his wine-soaked collar, stepped on Xiao Wenyu, and strolled into the dressing room.

“I’ll change first.”

【…】

His life was on the line, and he still felt like changing clothes.

Ten minutes later, Song Liang sauntered into the elevator outside the VIP suite, dressed in an impeccably tailored black suit. His jacket hung casually open, and his white shirt was only partially buttoned, revealing a generous expanse of fair skin. He’d swept the long strands from his forehead back, exposing his clean, handsome features. His dark, alluring eyes were bright and clear, and a careless smile lingered at his lips.

He looked every inch the charming, untamed playboy.

3085 was deeply displeased with this display. The original owner had been a gloomy, insecure little simp. Somehow, this man had turned the role into a powerful, womanizing top.

【Keep making trouble!】 it snapped. 【The Xiao family’s bodyguards will discover what happened to Xiao Wenyu any minute. Then you won’t even be able to get off the ship!】

Watching the elevator display change to “1,” Song Liang replied lightly, “Relax. I guarantee I’ll be off this ship tonight.”

A moment later, the doors slowly opened, revealing a neat row of black-clad bodyguards.

Song Liang: “…”

“Didn’t you say Xiao Wenyu’s bodyguards had only just reached the top floor?”

【…Yes,】 3085 replied despairingly. 【But these aren’t Xiao Wenyu’s bodyguards】

Song Liang paused.

The guards outside the elevator respectfully stepped aside. A man in a black couture suit slowly approached. He had sharp, handsome features and cold, dark eyes. Even standing still, he radiated the commanding power and arrogance of someone accustomed to being above everyone else.

“Song Liang. You again.”

“…”

That familiar domineering-CEO tone, and the disgust he couldn’t quite hide beneath his coldness, told Song Liang exactly who he was without needing to ask.

The main top.

Xiao Ji.
