Chapter 157: I’ll Give You a Home (Final Chapter)

Yun Yin shrieked wildly. His once reasonably delicate face was now twisted and frightening, so ugly that looking at him for another moment felt unpleasant.

Wen Sheng watched him without expression and slowly drew a dagger from an attendant’s waist. A cold gleam swept across Yun Yin’s face, making his expression stiffen for an instant.

“You’re lucky. You’re the first person I’ve killed in a mission world.”

Yun Yin knew he would not leave this place alive, but facing death still terrified him. His legs weakened beyond his control. He did not even stop to wonder what “mission world” meant; he only kept spitting out vicious curses.

“At least Lan Tang is dying with me! Wen Sheng, my life may be worthless, but yours is no better. If I suffer, you have to suffer too!”

Wen Sheng crouched before him and asked gently, “Are you finished?”

His voice was calm and soft, yet it made Yun Yin’s scalp prickle. Yun Yin opened his mouth to say more, but a burst of intense pain struck him, followed by blood flooding his mouth.

“Mmph! Ah!”

The dagger’s blade was smooth, and Wen Sheng moved so quickly that no blood had even touched it.

A tongue lay on the ground, severed with a clean cut. A cruel smile touched Wen Sheng’s lips. The next moment, the blade entered Yun Yin’s body with a faint sound, and Wen Sheng gently turned the hilt.

“That’s your kidney.”

“Your spleen.”

“Your liver.”

“Your lung.”

Each time the blade entered his body, Wen Sheng named the organ, turned the hilt, then slowly withdrew it. The attendants kept hold of Yun Yin rather than letting him fall. Blood flowed continuously from his wounds, but he could not die at once. All he could do was feel the pain of every strike. The terror in his eyes turned to pleading. Now he only wanted Wen Sheng to kill him quickly. It hurt so much. Everything hurt…

“You want to die?”

Wen Sheng raised Yun Yin’s chin with the bloodied blade. There was not a spot of blood on his clothes, and his smile was gentle and captivating. If not for what he was doing, the sight of him alone would have felt as pleasant as a spring breeze.

Watching Yun Yin suffer more and more, Wen Sheng spoke with a hint of regret. “I was going to cut your throat, but I don’t want your blood on my clothes. So remember this: here is your filthy, wretched heart.”

The blade entered Yun Yin’s body again, bringing the worst pain yet. Wen Sheng twisted the hilt, scraping hard inside him. Only when Yun Yin’s eyes rolled back did Wen Sheng slowly rise. The attendants released him.

Yun Yin fell to the ground, convulsed for a while, and gradually went still.

Lan Zhai had just stepped onto the platform when he saw this. The sight of Wen Sheng standing at its edge filled him with a sudden sense of dread.

Wen Sheng spread his arms, relaxed his body, and let himself fall. He did not know whether the height was enough to kill him, so he summoned Balala. “End the mission. Teleport me.”

“No! Wen Sheng!”

Lan Zhai’s cry rang out sharply. He reached for Wen Sheng with all his strength but caught only the edge of his clothes.

Overwhelmed by pain, Lan Zhai sank to his knees and could only watch Wen Sheng about to hit the ground.

As he fell, Wen Sheng realized he had forgotten to block the sensation of pain. It would probably hurt, but that did not matter. It would only last an instant.

Wen Sheng closed his eyes and whispered in his heart, “Lu Yan, I’m coming back to find you…”

The pain he expected never came. Something soft and cool wrapped around him.

“Look! What’s that on the sea?”

Someone cried out in surprise. A fierce wind suddenly swept across the sea, and a cloud of blue mist rushed toward the shore. It reached Wen Sheng in an instant and took the shape of a tall man, who caught him in midair.

Beneath the man’s mask, Wen Sheng saw the same narrow eyes as Lu Yan’s, filled with boundless love as they looked at him. His voice was deep and helpless. “Yan Shiqing, you’ve hurt yourself again.”

Yan Shiqing’s expression changed sharply. He reached to pull off Lu Yan’s mask, but Lu Yan caught his hand. “I’ll let you see in a moment. There are too many people here.”

For this time, Lu Yan had made the Sea God’s face identical to his own, and Lan Tang had worn that face too. Removing the mask now would cause a great deal of trouble. Holding Yan Shiqing, he flew into the air.

“The Sea God! Is that the Sea God?!”

Lu Yan wore a black cloak, its Sea God emblem shining brightly. He had come from the deep sea with supreme magical power.

Everyone on the ground dropped to their knees. Lu Yan extended a hand and lightly touched Lan Tang. In the next instant, Lan Tang’s wound healed at astonishing speed. The man whose heart had stopped moments earlier slowly opened his eyes.

The real Lan Tang had awakened. He looked around in bewilderment, feeling as though he were dreaming.

Yan Shiqing paid no attention to anything around them. He wrapped his arms around Lu Yan’s neck. “Take me away.”

Somewhere without anyone else. He wanted to look at Lu Yan and hold him.

Lu Yan laughed softly and carried Yan Shiqing back over the sea.

“Wen Sheng!”

Lan Zhai shouted after Wen Sheng as he flew farther away, tears spilling from the corners of his eyes. Only when Wen Sheng disappeared into the sea did he sink to his knees and break down crying. He would never see Wen Sheng again. Wen Sheng would not return.

Lan Tang rose from the ground and stared at Lan Zhai in confusion. When an attendant came to help him, he asked, “Who is Wen Sheng? Why does Little Zhai keep crying?”

“The Sea God has appeared! The Sea God has appeared!”

People on the shore continued to cheer and shout amid the chaos, but neither Yan Shiqing nor Lu Yan heard them. Deep beneath the sea, the Sea God’s palace was vast and luxurious. Lu Yan stroked Yan Shiqing’s fish tail and found himself in a quandary. He had wanted to be intimate with him.

Lu Yan was about to speak when pain struck his face. First his mask was pulled off; then came the slap.

“Shouldn’t you be kissing me? Why did you hit me?”

Why had he hit him? Yan Shiqing stared at him coldly, unable to believe Lu Yan had the nerve to ask.

It was obvious now. Lu Yan had deliberately made him watch as he died.

The headache Lan Tang had suffered on the shore had most likely been Lu Yan’s memories returning.

“Were you trying to prove how much I love you this way? Was it fun?”

In the previous world, Yan Shiqing had died because of his mission. Lan Tang’s death in this world, however, had been entirely avoidable. Lu Yan had done it on purpose, hurting himself to see how much Yan Shiqing loved him.

Lu Yan did not mind the slap, but Yan Shiqing had clearly misunderstood his intention. He hurried to pull him into his arms. With a slight movement of his beautiful tail, Yan Shiqing slipped free. The cold pride in his lovely eyes brought Lu Yan a familiar feeling.

Whenever Yan Shiqing looked at him like that, Lu Yan could barely resist the urge to kneel on a keyboard…

“I did want you to experience the pain of losing the person you love. But I wasn’t asking you to prove how much you love me.”

“Yan Shiqing, if it helped you understand, even briefly, how terrified I am of losing you, then it was worth it.”

Lu Yan had not been testing whether Yan Shiqing cared. He wanted Yan Shiqing to stand in his place for a moment and understand how afraid he was of losing him.

“I divorced you because, after I was injured, you rushed to subdue a rampaging soul entity without any regard for your own safety. Your soul nearly shattered into dust. I thought that perhaps you needed to feel how frightened and devastated I would be if you disappeared. Maybe then, when you faced danger, you would think of me instead of everyone else.”

“I’ve never doubted that you love me. I know you do, Yan Shiqing. You love me deeply, just as I love you.”

If Lu Yan had not been certain Yan Shiqing loved him, he would never have done this. Because he knew, he had believed Yan Shiqing would finally understand his fear.

“Yan Shiqing, if something beyond our control ever happens in the Supreme Space and we have to risk our lives fighting it, I’d want to die beside you. I couldn’t bear to watch you die protecting me and everyone else.”

If Yan Shiqing had not been saved that time in the Supreme Space, Lu Yan would have died with him.

Yan Shiqing was the reason he existed in this world.

Lu Yan’s mental power sustained the entire Supreme Space and its countless small worlds. That was why Yan Shiqing could not bear to let anything happen to him. He would rather trade his own life to keep Lu Yan safe.

Yan Shiqing held all living beings in his heart. Lu Yan held only Yan Shiqing in his.

Yan Shiqing looked at him. After a brief stunned silence, he sighed. “You went to all this trouble for that? Lu Yan, you succeeded. You’ve changed my principles.”

Yan Shiqing’s principle had always been to put everyone else first and Lu Yan second. He could accept dying in battle, but he could not bear to watch Lu Yan die.

If they faced something like that again, this experience would make him do as Lu Yan wished. He would put his own safety first.

“Qingqing, I want you to know that if you cease to exist, I won’t be able to live either.”

Lu Yan looked at Yan Shiqing with a tender, lingering smile, as though he were stating the most natural thing in the world.

Yan Shiqing watched him for a long time before speaking with a note of resignation. “Take me back to the Supreme Space.”

He could have spent Lan Tang’s lifetime with him, but he could not spend the Sea God’s lifetime at his side. The Sea God would live far too long, while a merperson’s lifespan was no longer than a human’s. If Yan Shiqing stayed for the rest of his life, Lu Yan would have to watch him die.

The instant his soul left the body, Yan Shiqing lost consciousness. When he came to, he was inside a transport pod.

Both pods opened at the same time.

“Welcome back, Lord God and Lord Shiqing! And early congratulations on your happy remarriage!”

Balala poured out congratulations as though they cost nothing. Lu Yan gave it an approving smile, but Yan Shiqing snorted at the disloyal little system. “What remarriage? We haven’t remarried.”

Lu Yan’s smile froze. He hurried after Yan Shiqing to his lounge, his voice anxious and his narrow eyes full of hurt. “Didn’t we agree we’d remarry once the missions were over?”

“When did I agree to that?”

Yan Shiqing sat down, watching Lu Yan with a languid, unconcerned gaze.

Lu Yan opened his mouth, then realized Yan Shiqing had never actually said they would remarry after the missions. He had simply assumed it all along.

Damn it!

“Qingqing, I want us to remarry. Please? I’m begging you~”

Lu Yan embraced Yan Shiqing from behind the chair. His warm breath brushed Yan Shiqing’s neck, leaving it tingling.

Yan Shiqing always found it hard to resist when Lu Yan pleaded like this. Besides, he did not want to think about remarriage right now. He had something else in mind. “I’m tired. Carry me into the bedroom.”

Behind the office lay a private living space. Yan Shiqing reclined on the bed, propping up his head as he watched Lu Yan emerge from the shower. His gaze grew steadily more suggestive.

“Qingqing, let’s remarry. Please, let’s remarry~”

Yan Shiqing clicked his tongue, tired of hearing it. He tugged Lu Yan’s towel away and looked at him through inviting eyes. Lightly touching his abdomen with his fingertips, he murmured, “That depends on how you behave.”

Lu Yan could hardly resist. He immediately leaned over Yan Shiqing.

A faint metallic sweetness and broken moans soon filled the room.

After an unknown length of time, their passionate lovemaking finally drew to a close.

Lu Yan’s husky voice sounded beside Yan Shiqing’s ear. “Qingqing, marry me again.”

Yan Shiqing was so exhausted he could not lift a finger. With his eyes closed, he gave a casual wave of his hand, and a panel appeared in midair.

It displayed Yan Shiqing’s personal information. Lu Yan’s name stood clearly in the “Spouse” field.

Lu Yan froze, then hurriedly opened his own panel. Yan Shiqing’s name was just as clear in its “Spouse” field.

“If you’d checked your personal information even once in the past three years, you would have known I never put my fingerprint on the divorce agreement.”

Lu Yan truly had never checked. Neither did most people. In this era, a divorce required only the submission of an agreement and a remote fingerprint confirmation.

After confirming with his own fingerprint, Lu Yan had sent Yan Shiqing the link. Knowing Yan Shiqing’s character, he had assumed Yan Shiqing would end their marriage without hesitation.

But he had not. Yan Shiqing had never submitted his fingerprint.

“Lu Yan, I love you far more than you realize.”

Exhausted, Yan Shiqing nestled into Lu Yan’s arms. The familiar warmth made him feel deeply at ease, and he soon fell fast asleep. Then he dreamed.

In the dream, Yan Shiqing was twenty years old. His world had suddenly changed. Many people awakened mental powers, completely reshaping its divisions of wealth and power.

As more and more people developed mental powers, Yan Shiqing showed no sign of awakening any. His father therefore tried to force him to marry someone with high-level mental powers. Just as Yan Shiqing fell into despair, Lu Yan came.

The former street delinquent had awakened mental powers no one could match. He held out his hand to Yan Shiqing.

“Yan Shiqing, come with me. I’ll give you love, and you give me a home.”

“All right, Lu Yan. Give me your love, and I’ll give you a home.”
