Chapter 04

If Ling Xiao had still held on to a faint hope that Xia Liangzhi had defended Dan Shen merely out of principle, that hope had now vanished completely.

Through gritted teeth, Ling Xiao replied, “I understand.”

Qiao Tianyu found it immensely satisfying to see him forced to swallow his frustration.

In truth, Qiao Tianyu had been unhappy with Ling Xiao for a long time. Anyone with eyes could tell that Ling Xiao liked Xia Liangzhi. Yet Liangzhi had barely been abroad before Ling Xiao found himself a substitute. Qiao Tianyu could not understand it. If he truly liked someone, what was wrong with waiting two years? Who was this little performance meant to hurt?

Previously, Qiao Tianyu had assumed Liangzhi returned Ling Xiao’s feelings. And since Liangzhi had chosen his career over Ling Xiao, Qiao Tianyu had figured neither of them owed the other anything.

But Liangzhi had never felt that way. In that case, Ling Xiao’s decision to find a substitute was simply awful to watch.

Wanting to make Ling Xiao uncomfortable, Qiao Tianyu pointed at Dan Shen. “Still, rumors don’t come from nowhere. Look at him, Liangzhi. Doesn’t Dan Shen resemble you a little?”

Xia Liangzhi turned his head. Apparently unable to get a good look, he leaned closer.

Warm wine-scented breath mingled with a faint floral fragrance against Dan Shen’s face, making him go still. He had not drunk a single drop, yet his cheeks burned as though the scent of wine alone had made him tipsy.

After studying him for a while, Xia Liangzhi finally sat back.

“Where do we look alike? Our features and even our expressions are completely different. At most, our faces have a vaguely similar outline.”

“You wouldn’t understand. It’s only natural for beautiful people like us to share a few features.”

Qiao Tianyu: “…”

So he and Ling Xiao were the ugly ones, then…

The smile in Xia Liangzhi’s eyes grew brighter. Wine had tinted his lips a vivid red, making it almost impossible to look away.

Dan Shen’s throat moved. He hurriedly averted his gaze, no longer daring to look at Xia Liangzhi. Heat spread through his body, and his heart pounded against his ribs.

At last, he understood why Ling Xiao still could not forget Xia Liangzhi. Once you had met someone like him, how could anyone else catch your eye?

Xia Liangzhi could not hold his liquor particularly well. He had accepted quite a few drinks throughout the evening, and by the time the party ended, his steps had grown unsteady.

Dan Shen was standing closest. The moment Xia Liangzhi swayed, he reached out to steady him. Ling Xiao’s hand stopped in midair before dropping back to his side. He looked at Dan Shen, his expression dark.

Xia Liangzhi was slightly shorter than Dan Shen. Leaning on Dan Shen’s arm, he looked breathtaking with color in his cheeks. No one knew where he had found a business card, but he began fumbling to slip it into Dan Shen’s breast pocket. He missed several times, his fingers brushing across Dan Shen’s chest and leaving a ticklish sensation behind. Only when Dan Shen instinctively started to pull away did he finally manage to tuck the card into the pocket.

Once he had done it, Xia Liangzhi said nothing. He merely smiled at Dan Shen, his gaze so captivating it seemed capable of stealing the other man’s soul.

“Did you just use that as an excuse to feel Dan Shen up? He’s the male lead’s love interest! You spent the entire evening flirting with him instead of doing your mission. You’ve practically flirted him into a daze!”

Seated in the car, Xia Liangzhi narrowed his eyes slightly. His gaze, however, was perfectly clear. There was no trace of drunkenness left in him.

“Who said I did nothing? Take a look at the resentment level.”

Ba La La widened its eyes and opened the interface. A sudden ding rang out.

Eighty!!!!

The original host’s resentment had fallen by a full twenty percent!

But Xia Liangzhi had hardly done anything. He had barely even spoken to Ling Xiao!

Ba La La could not understand it…

“You’re a machine, a collection of code. Of course you don’t understand human feelings.”

Ba La La: So annoying. And I can’t even argue…

“A white moonlight has to be like the moon in the sky: forever pure, bright, and far beyond reach. The moment Ling Xiao believes he has even the slightest chance of touching me, I cease to be his white moonlight.”
