What he wanted had never been reconciliation.
He wanted Yu Yan dead!
And he wanted him to die cleanly—preferably without getting so much as a single drop of blood on his own hands.
The so-called original surveillance footage had all been deliberately prepared by him. As long as he could restrain Gu Xichao and use him to lure Yu Yan out, half his objective would already be accomplished.
He was certain that the relationship between Gu Xichao and Yu Yan was anything but ordinary. Whether two years ago or now, all Gu Xichao had to do was call, and Yu Yan would come—even if a mountain of blades and a sea of flames stood in his way.
From the very beginning, he had never intended to gain Gu Xichao’s complete trust. He only needed to stall him and keep him there for a while.
As for what would happen afterward…
That was none of Gu Xichao’s concern.
“Trying to run?” Gu Xichao shouted to the bodyguards. “Hold him down!”
“Xichao, what are you trying to do? I’m a law-abiding citizen!” Yu Wei was pinned firmly in place by the bodyguards, unable to move.
“What are you planning to do to Yu Yan? What is your real objective?!”
While waiting for Yu Yan to answer the phone, Gu Xichao’s mind raced, rapidly sorting through everything the man before him had said and determining how much had been true and how much had been a lie.
The alleged will, the accusations of financial crimes, even the master surveillance tape that supposedly could save Yu Yan’s life… all of it had been designed to make Gu Xichao believe in Yu Wei’s suffering.
Yet Gu Xichao had personally confirmed that Yu Wei could barely survive in the country, let alone possess the means to harm anyone—unless Yu Wei had deliberately made himself appear weak and still had accomplices working behind the scenes.
Gu Xichao had gravely underestimated Yu Wei’s malice.
When a man had been driven into a corner with nowhere left to turn, what method would he choose to reverse the situation?
Gu Xichao had already imagined the worst possible outcome.
