Min Zhi’s sense of smell seemed to have been sealed off. The suppressant was taking effect. Yet he could still faintly smell chamomile. Unable to stop himself, he lowered his head to the back of the Omega’s neck, where the pheromones were strongest. Pressing his nose against it, he inhaled deeply. The scent was faint, but it sent relief through his entire body. The bite marks there had not disappeared completely. Soon, though. Before long, the skin would return to normal without a trace.
Min Zhi unconsciously ran his tongue over the tips of his teeth.
He was holding someone. He knew who this person was: a pitiful little thing no one wanted. His husband did not want him, had abandoned him outside, and Min Zhi had picked him up.
He pressed his lips to the Omega’s gland. It was scorching. That touch alone made the pheromones grow richer, drifting endlessly into his mouth. Slowly, Min Zhi dragged his tongue over it. The person in his arms convulsed as though struck by electricity.
He paid it no mind. Stopping was even less conceivable, because he had tasted his favorite scent: warm, yet a little cool. Chamomile. Those beguiling pheromones were enough to rob him briefly of reason. Longingly, he caught that small, hot patch of flesh in his mouth and sucked.
The Omega in his arms carried his scent everywhere. Every inch of skin, even the blood in his veins, held Min Zhi’s pheromones. He belonged to him completely. The canine teeth meant for claiming territory began to itch. Min Zhi desperately wanted to bite down and make his scent stronger.
Fang Fengzhi trembled in fear, his arms wrapped tightly around Min Zhi’s waist. He knew this Alpha was about to mark him. He also knew he could not simply let it happen.
But he could not refuse. The overwhelmingly powerful pheromones left him unable to resist. He could only submit to the invasion.
Then the man pressed so closely behind him suddenly straightened.
Fang Fengzhi looked up and found Min Zhi frowning at him. He could not describe that look: anger, confusion, a tangle of emotions. Startled, he vaguely sensed that something was wrong.
But he no longer had a chance to leave. Min Zhi’s pheromones suddenly seemed to erupt from his body, filling the room with gunsmoke. However much Fang Fengzhi normally liked that scent, it was now overpowering and choking. No ordinary smell remained distinguishable in the air. There were only Min Zhi’s pheromones. Unbearable need consumed him as the scent forced its way into every corner of his body, plundering him roughly.
He no longer dared breathe, but the pheromones still forced their way into his nose and invaded his brain. Before he could react, his body reached its limit. His eyes suddenly widened, his pupils dilating in an instant. Then he threw back his head and screamed as he came.
The orgasm struck suddenly and violently. Dazed, his eyes half-open, he could not make out the expression on the man’s face.
Min Zhi caught his limp body.
He was burning all over, pheromones spilling out beyond his control. His next routine examination was still a week away, yet he had already accumulated so much. Lowering his eyes, he looked at the half-conscious Fang Fengzhi in his arms.
His reason allowed him to think of many things. Strangely, however, he did not push Fang Fengzhi away. Instead, he held him tighter. As though acting on instinct, he concealed that slender body completely, leaving only a pair of dangling legs. Without those legs, no one would have known he was hiding someone so small in his arms.
And now Fang Fengzhi could no longer escape Min Zhi’s pheromones at all.
The body in his arms began convulsing violently, the movements large and uncontrollable. Even his suspended legs struggled fiercely. Like someone drowning at sea and on the verge of suffocating, his body thrashed beyond his control.
Had Fang Fengzhi been fully conscious, he would have realized this was, in fact, a brutal pheromone assault.
The research institute used pheromones extracted from Enigmas to manufacture medication. The principal ingredient in Infindoni, the most effective anesthetic used in hospitals, was Enigma pheromones. Its effects were pronounced because the extracted pheromones were highly concentrated. A patient would lose consciousness instantly, feeling no pain, only pleasure—pleasure capable of carrying someone into heaven.
But hospitals rarely used this anesthetic because its aftereffects were too severe.
There had been Omega patients who could not withstand such intense pleasure and suffered sudden death during the endless orgasms. More patients, however, found themselves unable to forget the pleasure afterward. They became enthralled, even addicted.
At this moment, Fang Fengzhi was surrounded by Enigma pheromones. Too much had accumulated for their source to control their release. The concentration in the room now rivaled that of extracted and synthesized Infindoni.
Like everyone given that anesthetic, he experienced one orgasm after another without end. Control of it rested with the Enigma. It would end whenever he decided. The Omega had no choice.
His cock could no longer release any semen, only intermittent spurts of clear fluid. The relentless intensity of the pleasure was close to destroying Fang Fengzhi’s nerves. He felt himself being ruined, forced toward that supposed paradise. He could do nothing except cry helplessly. No longer the faint whimpers of a small animal, his cries became loud and desperate. He did not know whether this would be the last time he ever made a sound.
The crying startled Min Zhi. Looking at Fang Fengzhi’s tear-streaked, running face, he reached for a tissue to wipe it, only for his body to freeze.
What was he doing?!
He seemed to come to his senses all at once. Abruptly standing, he grabbed a piece of clothing, wrapped it around the Omega, and pushed him out of the room.
The housekeeper hurried over. With a bang, Min Zhi slammed the door and locked it.
Hearing her hesitant voice outside, he frowned and closed his eyes, veins standing out at his temples. Just now, he had almost broken that Omega…
Min Zhi did not emerge from his room until the following morning.
Finding the housekeeper alone in the kitchen, he asked, “Is he feeling better?”
She did not understand what had happened last night. Believing Min Zhi had deliberately reduced Fang Fengzhi to that state and then thrown him out, she gave him a reproachful look.
“He’s all right now. Still asleep.”
Min Zhi nodded without speaking.
He had overestimated his self-control. He should have kept his distance from the Omega.
After breakfast, the Omega still had not come downstairs. The housekeeper prepared something to take up to him, but Min Zhi stopped her halfway and took it from her hands.
“I’ll bring it.”
She could hardly object. She only watched anxiously as Min Zhi approached Fang Fengzhi’s door.
He raised a hand and knocked softly.
The Omega must have been awake. Before long, Min Zhi caught a faint trace of chamomile pheromones, and the door opened from inside. At the sight of Min Zhi, Fang Fengzhi went still, then instinctively retreated several steps. His hand gripped the handle, but he did not close the door.
That frightened, startled expression stirred an inexplicable frustration in Min Zhi.
“May I come in?”
The Omega hesitated for a few seconds, then stepped aside.
“Come in.”
Min Zhi placed breakfast on the small table nearby. For a moment, he did not know how to bring up last night. All he asked was, “Are you feeling uncomfortable anywhere?”
“…No.”
Turning, he saw that Fang Fengzhi had deliberately kept some distance between them. Then he noticed the outer garment hanging nearby, the one he had put around Fang Fengzhi last night. After a silence, he spoke.
“I’m sorry.”
“Last night… my pheromones went out of control. Something terrible almost happened…”
Fang Fengzhi kept his head down and said nothing for a long time. His memories of last night were hazy, but the feeling of being driven to the brink by pleasure remained. Fear of the Alpha before him rose involuntarily within him.
He glanced up at Min Zhi. His expression was sincere, as though he truly felt deeply guilty. Fang Fengzhi had indeed watched him use a suppressant last night. How, then, could his pheromones still have reached such a high concentration?
“Why…”
He did not know how to ask, but Min Zhi understood his confusion.
“I’m not an Alpha.”
Seeing Fang Fengzhi’s puzzled expression, he confessed, “I’m an Enigma.”
Fang Fengzhi’s eyes widened.
“I’m sorry I didn’t tell you before.”
An Enigma.
Only now did Fang Fengzhi realize what kind of situation he was in. Standing before him was an Enigma, the highest-ranking human in the empire, the most dangerous and aggressive of them all.
And he had even been marked by him.
