Chapter 54: Forced into Love by My Sworn Enemy (3)

The car window slowly rose. The vehicle rocked slightly, but no sound escaped outside.

Qin Fan’s hand covered Lin Huaiqing’s mouth, only for him to bite it, leaving a clear set of teeth marks.

Wincing, Qin Fan gripped his chin with one hand and forced him to let go.

They were very close, their breathing particularly distinct in the darkness.

“Why aren’t we moving?”

Having finally restrained the restless Lin Huaiqing in the back seat, Qin Fan ordered the driver to leave.

“Young Master, a Bentley is blocking our way.”

Few people in the capital would dare block a Qin family car. Besides, the black Bentley’s license plate looked familiar.

Soon, someone stepped out of it, knocked on his window, and bent down.

“Second Young Master Qin, Chairman Lin has come personally to collect our young master. Please let him out.”

Qin Fan looked at the figure inside the car ahead, his gaze darkening. He could only open the door and allow the Lin family’s people to take the drunken Lin Huaiqing away.

An inauspicious start indeed.

When Lin Huaiqing next woke, it was already noon the following day.

“Auntie Wang, my head hurts…”

He rubbed his hungover head, which felt as though it had turned to mush.

All he remembered was drinking a great deal. Although he had completed his task, his blatant provocation had also angered Qin Fan.

The man had forced him into the car, probably intending to find somewhere deserted and teach him a lesson.

While struggling, Lin Huaiqing had hit his head against the door. He remembered nothing after that.

Yet when he opened his eyes, he was in his own large bed at home.

How absurd!

“You little brat! Tell me where you went last night!”

Lin Zhen, the current chairman of the Lin Group, looked at his disappointing son and wanted to throw him out of the house.

Unfortunately, he had only this one foolish son. One day, the company would have to pass into his hands.

But how could he feel reassured when Lin Huaiqing was such a layabout?

“Last night… I just had a few drinks with friends.”

“Friends? That second Qin boy is your friend?! And the two of you were in the car…”

Nearly fifty, Lin Zhen was red-faced with anger.

Whenever he recalled what had happened, his temples throbbed.

He had been at the venue on business himself. Upon leaving, he saw his son being carried into a car by another man.

Then the Ghost began rocking slightly right before his eyes. He had nearly called the police.

If his assistant had not pointed out that the car belonged to the Qin Group, he would have sent someone to smash it open.

Knowing his father’s hostility toward the Qin family, Lin Huaiqing hurried to explain.

“Of course not! Someone arranged a gathering. How was I supposed to know they’d invite him too?”

Before Lin Zhen’s piercing gaze, the explanation sounded increasingly feeble.

“You’d better really have been drunk last night.”

Otherwise, he would have to start wondering whether his son was attracted to men.

“Also, make yourself presentable tonight. You’re meeting the daughter of the Lin family’s building-materials business. Make an effort to build a relationship! If you stand her up, I’ll cut off your cards!”

Even at nearly fifty, Lin Zhen remained brisk and decisive. Before his son could express an opinion, he was gone.

Lin Huaiqing knew his father’s methods well. If he said he would cut off his cards, he would not leave him a penny.

So he could not refuse this matchmaking arrangement intended to unite the two families.

But he had a hundred ways to make the young heiress thoroughly dislike him.

For a quick-transmigration worker like him, avoiding deep attachments to people in mission worlds was a fundamental rule.

Heartbreak was a small matter. Losing his job was serious. Qin Du in the previous world had, of course, been an exception.

Even romance had to remain a performance he could leave in time.

Thinking of Qin Du reminded him that these two brothers were also surnamed Qin. Was Qin really such a common name?

The prospect of tonight’s date with the building-materials heiress made his head ache.

He could not embarrass either family, yet he had to make her genuinely dislike him without going too far.

It seemed he would have to try something he had learned from a video app.

That afternoon, Lin Huaiqing dressed carefully. His appearance represented the entire Lin Group, not just himself. He dared not be careless.

Looking in the mirror, he was quite satisfied. The face was almost an exact copy of his real one.

In reality, however, he could never afford such an expensive bespoke suit. Nor would he style his hair so ostentatiously.

The man in the mirror practically had “spoiled rich kid” written across his forehead.

A fine exterior, rotten inside. Unless she cared only about a handsome face, surely she would not like him.

He got into the luxury car, and the driver took him to that evening’s venue—a high-end Western restaurant.

The setting and atmosphere were ideal for couples. Choosing such a place for their meeting suggested that his date was probably a cultured, artistic young lady.

“I’m sorry to have kept you waiting, Mr. Lin.”

Lin Huaiqing looked up at the young woman before him, his eyes involuntarily softening.

She wore a simple yet fashionable pale-blue strapless dress and carried a Chanel bag from that year’s spring collection.

Her refined, gentle appearance made him look twice.

Children from wealthy families rarely looked too bad.

It was not that he looked down on the poor. Wealthy families simply invested far more in their children than ordinary households could.

He had to admit she was an impressive young woman, and he admired her. Unfortunately, what he was about to do would make her detest him.

“You’re not late. Your timing is excellent, Miss Lin. Please sit.”

As he spoke, he repeatedly looked her up and down—and not in an entirely innocent way.

While he studied her, Lin Yanyan was studying him too.

She had already heard about the Lin Group’s heir in her social circle. His looks were beyond reproach; among the crowd of useless wealthy sons, he stood out unmistakably.

Unfortunately, he showed little interest in women. She did not know whether he simply kept himself above casual relationships or there was another explanation.

“Since our parents arranged this meeting, I won’t beat around the bush. What do you enjoy doing, Miss Lin?”

“Well, I like tea, horse riding, and reading. Oh, and I sometimes watch sports. I mainly follow international football.”

“Oh? A woman like you enjoys football?”

Lin Huaiqing leaned closer with a faintly mocking air.

“Then let me test you. How many times has Brazil won the World Cup?”

Hearing the question, Lin Yanyan nearly rolled her eyes to the heavens.

Such a handsome man. Why did he have to open his mouth?

Straight to “let me test you.” What a fucking turnoff.
