Guoguo, Finance Team Three: 「Nearly gave me a heart attack! Our young Mr. Lin is seriously bold. Secretary Hell usually looks like such a top. Who knew he was the one underneath!」
Within minutes, the employees’ private group chat had passed ninety-nine unread messages. Every one of them was about Lin Huaiqing and Qin Fan’s office antics.
The further one scrolled, the more scandalous the conversation became.
By the time work ended that evening, Lin Huaiqing could clearly sense that his employees were looking at him and Qin Fan differently.
“I’m staying at the family estate tonight. Don’t be late tomorrow!”
Qin Fan made sure to remind him before leaving.
“I know! I promise I’ll be there on time.”
Tomorrow was the main event. Even if knives rained from the sky, he would still attend.
In fact, he was already looking forward to it immensely.
The next morning, Lin Huaiqing set his alarm to get up three hours early.
There was nothing new in his chat with Shen Jingyi, only the greetings they had exchanged when they first added each other.
Apparently, the upheaval would happen at today’s engagement banquet.
After carefully grooming himself, Lin Huaiqing put on the most expensive suit in his wardrobe.
The driver Qin Fan had sent was already waiting outside to take him straight to the venue.
The engagement banquet of the Qin Group’s successor had drawn almost every prominent figure in the province.
Luxury cars crowded the entrance to the Shenghao Hotel. There were enough to stage one of the country’s most exclusive luxury-car exhibitions.
The entrance was almost completely blocked, and there was no telling when the congestion would clear. Lin Huaiqing simply asked the driver to pull over across the road. He could walk the rest of the way.
Just as he reached the hotel entrance, he unexpectedly ran into two people he had no desire to see.
“Oh? Cousin?! What are you doing here?”
Xue Cheng’an called out to him.
Beside him stood the woman Lin Huaiqing had once called his aunt—Lin Lan.
Apparently, after leaving the Lin family, Lin Lan had used her savings from many years to start a small company.
Just as the company went public, she had managed to secure a deal with one of the Qin Group’s subsidiaries.
Thanks to that major order, her business had actually begun to prosper.
Now that the Qin family’s eldest son was holding his engagement banquet, mother and son had shamelessly turned up despite not being invited.
If they got in, all the better. If they failed to slip inside, they could call it an outing.
“Well, well. It really is Huaiqing! Looks like I was right to leave that mess of a Lin family behind. Has the great young master fallen so low he can’t even afford a ride? Don’t tell me you walked all this way?”
Although Lin Lan had left the family, she was still lavishly dressed and dripping with jewelry. Clearly, she had tucked away a considerable fortune of her own.
Now that things were going her way, she naturally wanted to flaunt her success in front of Lin Huaiqing.
But she should have remembered what he was like. He would never give her that satisfaction.
Lin Huaiqing regarded her with undisguised contempt.
“Lin Lan, didn’t you already get the hell out of the Lin family? Why are you still using our name? Take your son’s surname instead. Call yourself Xue Lan from now on, so you can stop parading around and embarrassing the rest of us!”
As far as the original owner’s so-called relatives were concerned, he would generously repay anyone who treated him well. Those who treated him badly, however, should not expect him to spare their feelings for the sake of family.
Besides, today’s engagement banquet was about to descend into chaos anyway. He did not mind adding a little fuel to the fire beforehand.
Sure enough, those few sentences were enough to make Lin Lan lose her composure. Pointing straight at his face, she snapped:
“And who do you think you are? Do you have any idea what standing the Qin family has in this city? Did they even invite you? You come crawling after people who don’t want you—do you really think they’ll let you in?”
