Chapter 32: Trending Rumors

Filming had just kicked off, so when the director suggested a cast dinner, of course no one said no. Everyone showed up.

Wei Sinian sat right next to Su Nuo. Su Nuo was speechless. Since when was Wei Sinian this good-tempered? A newbie gave him attitude, and he could still sit down to dinner like nothing happened. Was that just the Best Actor thing?

And why did this guy act exactly like Yu Ning? Could he really not tell how much Su Nuo disliked him?

Su Nuo figured he cared too much about appearances, which was why these two kept getting to him. But he couldn’t exactly flip the table and blow up in front of everyone.

All the history from his past life was something only he knew. To anyone watching, he’d probably just look like he was being unreasonable.

“Getting to work together is fate. Come on, everyone, let’s have a toast.” Director Wang raised his glass. Off set, he was very approachable, without any of the strictness he had at work.

It was just beer, so Su Nuo picked his up along with everyone else. But Wei Sinian grabbed his wrist and pushed it back down.

“Why are you having him drink? Are we not shooting tomorrow?” Best Actor Wei looked straight at the director, clearly unhappy.

Director Wang felt a little wronged. “It’s just beer. One glass for the toast.”

Then he noticed what Wei Sinian had done with Su Nuo, and it clicked. “Look at my memory. I forgot Nuonuo’s still young. Nuonuo, don’t drink. Have some juice instead.”

After taking care of the little young master, the director shot the Best Actor a silent look of gratitude. Thank goodness he’d stopped him. If President Fu ever found out he’d given his precious little brother alcohol, wouldn’t this shabby little production be shut down on the spot?

Who knew Wei Sinian would be so attentive about keeping their big-money backer happy? If he’d had that kind of mindset earlier, the last few films they’d done together could’ve gotten so much more funding.

Su Nuo felt like the way everyone looked at him was getting weirder and weirder, especially that actor from before, who practically had the word “gossip” written all over his face.

Wei Sinian really knew how to ruin a person’s reputation. Ugh.

He’d rather the director just announce to everyone that he was the Fu family’s nepotism hire. That was better than everyone thinking he and Wei Sinian had something going on.

Out of everyone there, the only one who didn’t touch alcohol was Su Nuo, the kid who’d just turned eighteen. Everyone else had a little. After dinner, they waited outside for their managers or assistants to pick them up. Wei Sinian’s car arrived first, and he asked openly, “Want me to give you a ride home?”

Su Nuo smiled politely. “Thank you, senior, but no need. My family’s coming to get me soon.”

“Nuonuo, you live at home? You’re from the capital?” an actor nearby asked curiously.

No matter how busy he was every day, as soon as he saw his little brother, Fu Baihan felt fully recharged. The little treasure Ji Xinghui wanted to steal belonged to him and him alone.

“How do you like it on set?” Fu Baihan asked about his little brother’s work experience, ready at any moment to just buy the entire production.

It wasn’t his own investment, so he still didn’t feel completely at ease. What if someone mistreated his kid?

“It’s great! Filming’s going super smoothly. I really am meant to be an actor~” Su Nuo said proudly.

Seeing how pleased with himself the kid looked, Fu Baihan ruffled his hair. “Mm. Truly a future Best Actor.”

His phone rang. Fu Baihan pulled his hand back and answered his secretary’s call. “What is it?”

“President Fu, rumors about you and the little young master have shown up online. We’re urgently contacting PR.” The secretary immediately explained what had happened. “A paparazzo was following someone else and accidentally got you in the shot, so no one reached out to us beforehand. After it was posted, netizens recognized you, and it’s already trending.”

“Rumors about me and who?” For once, Fu Baihan doubted his own hearing.

The secretary calmly repeated, “You and the little young master.”

“…” Fu Baihan found it absurd, and then annoyed at the thought of his kid being secretly photographed. “Who posted it? Have it taken down first, then pursue legal action.”

As the CEO who once went viral at an economic summit purely for his looks, Fu Baihan was actually quite popular. If Fu Mingyuan was the nation’s dad, then Fu Baihan was the nation’s dream husband, everyone’s top fantasy for marrying into money. Too bad he was so low-key he barely even did interviews. So the moment a rumor came out, it blew up the trending list instantly.

The head of the Fu Group, the big boss sitting at the top of the rich list, with a face that crushed every male celebrity. What kind of angel would you have to be to date him?

The secretary got her instructions. “Understood.”

As soon as he hung up, Ji Xinghui called, laughing loudly. “Baihan, have you seen what’s trending? Hahahahaha, I’m dying! Everyone’s saying Nuonuo is your boyfriend!”

He was so loud that even Su Nuo, sitting next to him, could hear clearly. Caught off guard by his name coming up, he looked confused. “Huh?”

What? Whose boyfriend?

“I gotta say, the photo really looks the part. If I hadn’t been there that day, I’d have believed it too. But they didn’t get Nuonuo’s face, and I already helped clear it up.” Ji Xinghui fished for credit. “You owe me a big thank-you.”

Su Nuo had already opened Weibo to look. He had a feeling Ji Xinghui’s clarification wouldn’t exactly be serious. Don’t ask. He just didn’t trust that playboy.

After getting rid of Ji Xinghui, Fu Baihan leaned in. “What did they get?”

Su Nuo handed him the phone and covered his face. “The day I got drunk.”

He swore he would never drink again. Was he really that clingy when he was drunk? Why did he even jump onto his brother?!

Fu Baihan scrolled through it and laughed. “Still dare to go drinking with Ji Xinghui?”

Su Nuo shook his head obediently. “Never again.” He patted his chest in relief. “Good thing they didn’t get my face. Otherwise I’d have a huge scandal the second I got into the industry, and nobody would want to work with me.”

Fu Baihan pinched his cheek. “Is trending with me that embarrassing?”

Su Nuo tugged at his wrist. “Brother, I was wrong, I was wrong! Being in a scandal with you is an honor.”

“Little rascal…” Fu Baihan flicked his forehead.

The driver sat up front, eyes fixed on the road, thinking quietly: with how much you spoil the little young master, if people didn’t know he was your brother, who wouldn’t get ideas?

Same double standards as the old President Fu. Ice cold to outsiders, completely soft at home.

Su Nuo finally figured out what had happened. That night, a paparazzo had been following a pair of minor celebrities, and he and Fu Baihan just happened to be standing at the entrance and ended up in the shot. The paparazzo didn’t know who they were, assumed they were random passersby, and posted it without a second thought. It was pitch dark anyway, so no one paid attention.

Fu Baihan rarely had any rumors, mainly because no one dared to follow him around with a camera. Even knowing how much buzz he’d generate, they’d have to think about the Fu Group’s legal team first. Besides, he lived like an old-school government official. His private life was spotless. Apart from work and going home, he had no other schedule at all. The only photos anyone got were from official events, for people to drool over his looks.

Nobody cared about rumors involving D-list celebrities. Apart from their fans, the public didn’t even know who they were. But once someone happened to notice a couple hugging in the background, things took a strange turn.

First, people discussed why there were so many same-sex couples these days. Look at them, holding him with one arm and looking down at each other. So sweet. Then suddenly someone noticed that the side profile… looked kind of familiar.

Isn’t that President Fu?!!!

After zooming in and adjusting the brightness every way possible, netizens confirmed it. Yep, that was the nation’s dream husband.

Wow. In an instant, the minor celebrities became background extras, and Fu Baihan’s “relationship” shot to the top of the trending list.

Everyone was green with envy. Who was the little charmer in Fu Baihan’s arms? Was he about to marry straight into a rich family?

He looked slim, with long legs… too bad his face was buried in President Fu’s shoulder. You couldn’t see it.

One hand around his waist and the other patting his back, Fu Baihan with his head bowed and a gentle expression got read as infinitely devoted, and netizens instantly turned into jealous little lemons.

The PR team handled it fast. The poster quickly deleted it and apologized, and the hashtag disappeared from the trending list. But that did nothing to stop the creative passion of the gossip-hungry netizens. Stories about the CEO and his little lover just kept coming.

Su Nuo scrolled down, hit some very spicy content, and exited Weibo with his face burning red. He fumbled his phone and dropped it. Fu Baihan picked it up and handed it back, and Su Nuo couldn’t even look at him. He felt like their brotherly bond had been tainted by that stuff online.

“What’s wrong?” Fu Baihan noticed how awkward the kid was acting. “You’re this shy about a rumor with your own brother? What are you going to do when you have intimate scenes in a film someday?”

Su Nuo gave him a push. “Stop talking…”

“Okay.” Fu Baihan soothed him. “I’ll go warn them.”

Ji Xinghui posted quickly. As someone who was always flexing his wealth, he had a big following on Weibo too. And since everyone knew he was friends with Fu Baihan, lots of people tagged him, which was why he saw it so fast.

“This is the funniest rumor of the year. Lawyer letters are on the way. That’s what you get for making stuff up about our little brother.”

Once they found out it was his little brother, netizens were actually a little disappointed. Aww, the President Fu × little charmer ship sank the moment it sailed.

Fu Baihan’s account, which had been silent for years, finally made its very first post: “The kid’s a little mischievous. Sorry for the trouble.”

From those few ordinary words, everyone read exactly what President Fu really meant: That’s my kid. I spoil him. Everyone, zip it.
