Chapter 4: Toying with Your Body

As it turned out, the system not only had the heart to do it—it personally kicked Qin Yu onto the first path.

He stumbled forward a few steps. Before he could regain his balance, a towering wave swept toward him and dragged him mercilessly underwater. Caught off guard, he swallowed several mouthfuls of seawater before struggling back to the surface.

Once he could make out his surroundings, he could not help swearing.

“Fuck! What the hell is this?”

An endless ocean stretched around him, its waters deep blue. He was nothing more than a tiny speck in its vastness.

Surely this trial wasn’t going to make him swim across the entire ocean?

He was about to ask the system when he spotted a dorsal fin breaking the surface in the distance, rapidly approaching him. Scenes from movies he had watched in his previous life flashed through his mind. His face drained of color, and he swam in the opposite direction with every ounce of strength he possessed.

Meanwhile, inside Tiannan Divine Hall, Yu Lancheng suddenly opened his eyes, abandoning his rest. With a slight motion of his hand, a transparent water mirror appeared before him.

Watching the person in the mirror race a shark, he allowed the faintest curve to touch his otherwise impassive lips.

He had not even gone looking for him yet, and the boy had already delivered himself to his door?

Seated farther ahead, Perfected Lord Lianhui turned around. Seeing his normally aloof idol watching a water mirror, he could not resist stealing a curious glance. The sight of someone racing a shark made him exclaim:

“Someone has chosen the trial set by the Immortal Lord.”

At that, the others also wanted to draw closer and see who this brave soul might be. Unfortunately, before they could make out the person’s face, a veil of mist clouded the mirror.

“Have you nothing to do?”

Yu Lancheng swept an indifferent glance over them.

It was a simple question, yet they all felt a crushing, invisible pressure settle over them, making it difficult to breathe. They promptly took the hint and turned away to attend to their own affairs.

Once they were no longer watching, Yu Lancheng returned his gaze to the mirror.

Inside it, the shark had caught up with Qin Yu. Its enormous, blood-red maw opened, ready to swallow him whole.

Confronted at close range by that cavernous mouth, Qin Yu immediately whipped out the Redleaf Flying Vessel and scrambled aboard. The shark’s teeth grazed the soles of his feet before its entire body slammed into the vessel’s barrier, leaving it seeing stars.

Dazed, the shark swam several circles around the vessel. Once it recovered, it lunged at Qin Yu again, its eyes even fiercer than before.

Bang—

The shark flattened against the barrier like a fish pancake.

The tremendous impact did not shake the Redleaf Flying Vessel’s barrier in the slightest. Qin Yu breathed a sigh of relief, then could not help growing smug. He crooked a finger at the shark in challenge.

“Come on, bite me!”

Why hadn’t he thought of using the Redleaf Flying Vessel to cross the ocean earlier? With it, forget one ocean—he could make it across all four.

Watching through the water mirror, Yu Lancheng’s deep phoenix eyes flashed with a dark glimmer.

I’m such a “kindhearted” young master. Allow me to grant your wish.

A streak of white light flew toward the vessel. The Redleaf Flying Vessel rocked twice, then shrank back to the size of a model. With a splash, Qin Yu dropped into the water again. Seeing him back in the sea, the shark let out an excited roar and sped toward him, its eyes blood-red.

You cocky little brat! Now I’m coming to bite you.

Qin Yu tried to restore the Redleaf Flying Vessel to its full size, but it remained stubbornly unresponsive. Shocked and furious, he demanded of the system:

“System, what’s going on? Did the original owner have counterfeit goods on him?”

【Please do not question Haiyue City’s considerable wealth and resources. This is a trial realm. It is perfectly normal for you to be unable to use an immortal artifact here.】

“But I was clearly using it just now!”

If it had failed from the start, he could have understood. But what was the point of letting him use it, only to stop him afterward?!

【Rather than pondering that question, I suggest the host focus on escaping with his life.】

“What… Aaaah…”

Looking back to find the shark drawing closer, Qin Yu screamed and swam forward with all his strength.

Watching the figure in the mirror flee frantically from the shark, Yu Lancheng slowly curved his lips. His slender fingers swept across the mirror once more. The single shark became eight, surrounding Qin Yu on every side.

Little liar, aren’t you supposed to be such a good actor?

How will you escape death this time?

With sharks closing in from every direction, Qin Yu felt as though he were facing a formidable enemy.

“System, did you know choosing the first path would mean facing this?”

If the system dared say yes, he would drag it straight into a shark’s belly with him.

Even the system sounded uncertain now.

【According to the plot, Jiang Fu will become the disciple of Sect Master Wei Zhenghai. If you want to surpass him, your best option is to take someone of Immortal Lord rank as your master. I only have your best interests at heart.】

“So now you’re just going to watch me end up in a shark’s stomach?”

【The host can only pray for good fortune.】

Qin Yu: “…”

He had every reason to suspect the system was trying to get him killed—and he had evidence to prove it.

Eight sharks surged toward him from all directions, blocking every possible escape route. Even if he wanted to flee, there was nowhere left to go. With those sharp teeth about to tear him apart, he pressed his hands together in panic.

“Brother Shark, spare me!”

Unfortunately, the shark could not understand his pleas. It charged at him, opening its jaws to reveal rows of sharp teeth, determined to rip this arrogant human apart and swallow him.

Crack. Crack…

Instead of the expected spray of blood, the shark’s body suddenly went rigid. A thick mist clouded its eyes, and then its teeth began snapping off, one after another.

The surrounding sharks were stunned by the sight. Only Qin Yu understood what had happened. He sighed.

“Can’t we all just get along? You just had to try to eat me. Look, now you’ve broken all your teeth. You poor thing.”

That punchable look of his perfectly captured what it meant to gain an advantage and still act hard done by.

The sharks seethed with fury, but even their hardest teeth could do nothing to him. Unwilling to give up, they circled Qin Yu, trying to work out how to tear this human apart.

Seeing that the sharks were helpless against him, Qin Yu secretly breathed a sigh of relief.

“Good thing I kept something in reserve. Otherwise…”

Before he could finish congratulating himself, he was abruptly forced underwater. He struggled desperately to surface, but that invisible force bore down on him like a mountain, leaving him unable to break free.

Splash! Splash—

At some point, the sharks watching nearby had vanished. Across the silent sea, only the splashing of Qin Yu’s struggles remained.

One minute, then two… Whenever Qin Yu was on the verge of suffocating, the force would vanish briefly, only to return without warning and push him beneath the water again.

Inside Tiannan Divine Hall, Yu Lancheng lounged against the back of his chair, one arm resting casually on the armrest. His slender fingers tapped its smooth surface from time to time.

Had anyone watched closely, they would have noticed that each tap matched the rhythm of Qin Yu being forced underwater in the water mirror.

Seeing him take an interest in the disciples’ trials for once, Sect Master Wei Zhenghai rose and approached.

“Yazheng, has anyone among this year’s candidates caught your eye?”

As he spoke, he stole a glance at the water mirror before Yu Lancheng.

The boy Jiang Fu possessed a talent seen only once in a century—a true cultivation prodigy. If he could become Yazheng’s disciple, he might one day enter the Tribulation Transcendence realm and become another Immortal Lord of Tiannan Divine Sect.

With five Immortal Lords presiding over it, Tiannan Divine Sect’s standing would become all the more secure.
