Chapter 96: Forced into Love by My Sworn Enemy (45)

On his way to the company, Qin Fan found himself increasingly convinced that Gu Chengyun was right.

He and Lin Huaiqing had been out of contact for over a week. He had heard nothing.

That feeling of having lost all control left him deeply unsettled.

His outward indifference was merely a way to fool himself and preserve a little pride.

Gu Chengyun had brought him to his senses today. Even if he did not contact Lin Huaiqing directly, he should at least know what he was doing.

What if, just as Gu Chengyun had suggested, something happened to Lin Huaiqing during their cold war? Or he ran off with someone else?

By then, regret would be useless.

“Hello, Aaron? Have someone keep an eye on Lin Huaiqing around the clock. Report any developments to me immediately.”

Even after the call, Qin Fan felt it was not enough.

He was beginning to wonder whether he had lost his mind a week ago. Why had he let Lin Huaiqing leave?

He had been so desperately reluctant to part with him, yet he had still put on an act and sent him away.

What good had that done him?

Angry with himself, Qin Fan punched the steering wheel. The image of Lin Huaiqing crouched forlornly in the snow that day would not leave his mind.

According to Gu Chengyun, Lin Huaiqing had fallen seriously ill after going home. Even Yu Wenle had only learned about it after he recovered.

Had there really been no one to look after him while he was sick?

Of course. After the Lin Group’s decline, Lin Huaiqing had moved in with him. There was not even a housekeeper at his own little villa.

It was not difficult to imagine how he had endured those days of illness.

Before, when Lin Huaiqing was still beside him, even a sneeze had been enough to send Qin Fan into a panic. And now?

He had to stop thinking.

If he continued, Qin Fan was afraid he would lose control, rush straight to Lin Huaiqing’s company, and take him somewhere no one would ever find him.

He had once thought Qin Feng was mad for throwing the entire household into turmoil over a woman who had left.

Now he understood. If Lin Huaiqing disappeared on him, he would probably be even worse than his brother.

Sitting in the car, Qin Fan took a deep breath and forced himself to calm down.

The company still depended on him. However troubled he felt, he could not let it delay their business partnerships.

At three thirty that afternoon, after a two-hour year-end review meeting, Qin Fan leaned back in his executive chair and rubbed his temples hard.

It was an old problem. Heavy pressure at work brought on headaches, and worrying about Lin Huaiqing only made things worse.

Ding!

A message appeared on his phone. Fighting through the headache, Qin Fan opened it. It was from Aaron.

Once he read it properly, he broke into a cold sweat.

Lin Huaiqing was secretly preparing a private jet?

What was he planning?! Was he going to disappear too?!

Apparently, the flight route had already been approved, but the destination remained unknown.

That was beyond Aaron’s ability to investigate.

What exactly was Lin Huaiqing trying to do?!

Even if he no longer wanted Qin Fan, was he abandoning the Lin Group and his entire family too?

He had to find him. Right now. He needed an explanation!

There was no time to rest. If he kept dragging his feet, Lin Huaiqing would be gone!

Qin Fan drove straight to Lin Huaiqing’s company.

Parking right outside the Lin Group’s main entrance, he got out and strode into the building.

The security guard initially tried to stop him and ask him to move the car. But when he came closer and recognized the long-absent “Secretary Hell,” he wisely stepped aside.

As soon as Qin Fan entered the elevator, the guard took out his phone and tagged everyone in the company’s private group chat.

Security Guard: 「@Everyone Alert! All departments, stay on guard! Secretary Hell is on his way up!」

Receptionist: 「I saw him too. Why does he look so furious? Like he’s here to settle a score.」

Ms. Li, Business Department: 「He’s been away so long, I thought young Mr. Lin had loved him and left him! Don’t tell me he’s back to demand an explanation!」

Head of Administration: 「What are you all talking about? Mr. Lin is holding a management meeting, and my phone won’t stop buzzing!」

Inside the large conference room.

“From today onward, President Lin will have full responsibility for all company affairs, large and small. Let’s give him a warm welcome and invite him to say a few words.”

Leading the applause, Lin Huaiqing invited Lin Yu, seated beside him, to take the floor.

Lin Yu showed no sign of nerves. His polished remarks flowed effortlessly, making him sound like a seasoned executive.

Lin Huaiqing had worried that, being even younger than him, Lin Yu might struggle to command the room. Clearly, he had worried for nothing.

Just as the newly appointed president was speaking enthusiastically, a loud noise came from outside.

The conference room’s glass door was shoved open, revealing Qin Fan.

Everyone jumped. Even Lin Yu, absorbed in his speech, turned to look.

“Qin Fan?! What are you doing here?”

It was the first time Lin Huaiqing had called him by name in front of so many people.

Previously, Qin Fan’s particular identity had made things awkward at the company, so Lin Huaiqing had always been careful not to let it slip.

Today, he was genuinely startled. The name came out before he could stop it.

The corners of Qin Fan’s sharp eyes were faintly red, as though he had been wronged.

He stood in the doorway, staring at Lin Huaiqing with dark, unfathomable eyes filled with love and resentment.

Those tangled emotions made the somewhat disheveled man before him seem impossible to read.

Qin Fan’s upbringing would ordinarily never allow him to behave so rudely.

But today was an exception.

Instead of answering, he walked straight over in front of everyone, caught Lin Huaiqing’s arm, and said in a trembling voice:

“Come with me!”

Anyone else who dared manhandle their young Mr. Lin in front of the entire room would have been escorted out by security long ago.

But this was “Secretary Hell,” whose very name struck fear throughout the company. For a moment, no one dared intervene.

Lin Yu had only recently joined the company and knew nothing about the background of this man who had barged in to cause trouble. He stepped forward and caught Qin Fan by his clothes.

“Sir, let go! If you don’t, I’ll call security!”

Qin Fan turned and glared at him, clearly not taking him seriously.

“And who the hell are you? I’m here for my man. This has nothing to do with you. Get out of the way!”

To keep the scene from escalating, Lin Huaiqing finally spoke up.

“Lin Yu, continue the meeting. Qin Fan, come with me!”
