Chapter 59: My Boyfriend Won’t Let Me

Fu Baihan had almost forgotten there was more than one bedroom in the house. His kid had been hurt, so being a bit clingier made perfect sense. What else could he do? Of course he’d give up half the bed.

Seeing him still awake, Fu Baihan lay down and asked, “Didn’t you say you were going to sleep ages ago?”

He’d caught him staying up late again. He’d meant to lecture him a little, but then the kid snuggled softly into his arms, and he couldn’t say a thing.

He patted his back and soothed his little treasure. “Go to sleep.”

How had they gone from two separate blankets to naturally sleeping together? Fu Baihan looked at the kid burrowed in the crook of his neck and had a vague feeling he’d missed figuring something out.

It was easy for Su Nuo to work his tricks on him, because Fu Baihan never said no. Even if Su Nuo asked for a star from the sky, Fu Baihan would build him a ladder without a word.

Spoiling someone had become a habit. It was like that person had become part of his flesh and blood, impossible to give up.

After a long, busy day, coming home to the kid being cuddly wiped all his exhaustion away.

Fu Baihan wasn’t emotionally clueless. He just couldn’t be bothered, and few people were important enough for him to handle carefully. With all his experience, he could see right through most people’s schemes. And yet he couldn’t see through Su Nuo’s flirting.

That was exactly what frustrated Su Nuo. He was being this forward! Warming his bed, snuggling up close every day asking for hugs, and what happened?

He thought he was seducing a man, while Fu Baihan thought he was babysitting. He was probably considering getting up in the middle of the night to make him a bottle of formula.

So annoying.

As the weather got colder, Su Nuo got up later and later. If he didn’t have morning classes, he could stay in bed until noon.

Fu Baihan worked hard to break the kid’s habit of sleeping in. As long as they were home, he’d always make him get up for breakfast.

His parents were coming home soon. If they saw the kid had lost even a little weight, they’d be heartbroken.

They’d originally planned to stay abroad a bit longer while Su Jing recovered, but once they heard about the Su family, Fu Mingyuan and Su Jing couldn’t relax anymore. As soon as they confirmed Su Jing was healthy enough for a long flight, they started arranging to come home right away.

If they didn’t hurry back, someone was going to steal their little treasure.

Fu Mingyuan comforted Su Jing. “It’s fine. Nuonuo’s birth parents wouldn’t dare go up against the Fu family.”

Su Jing scolded him. “We’re not bandits who steal other people’s children.”

When it came to spoiling their wives, the Fu men were all the same. Fu Mingyuan immediately apologized and soothed her. “That’s not what I meant. Didn’t Baihan say Nuonuo doesn’t like them? Don’t worry.”

Su Jing sighed. “My sweetie hasn’t even called me Mom yet.”

Imagining the little treasure she’d watched grow up going to another family and calling other people Mom and Dad, Su Jing was close to tears, even though she knew that by blood, the Su family had a natural claim.

That wiped the smile off Fu Mingyuan’s face. That’s right. They’d never heard him call them Mom and Dad.

What right did the Su family have?! They were the ones who raised this kid!

“My sweetie has the softest heart. He’s resentful now, but if the Su family sweet-talks him, he’ll forgive them easily.” Su Jing couldn’t relax at all. As the saying goes, a parent never stops worrying, even when the child is a hundred. She didn’t need to worry about her eldest, so all her worry went to Su Nuo.

Fu Mingyuan said weakly, “There’s still Baihan. He’ll help Nuonuo tell right from wrong.”

Su Jing got angry. “What does he know?! He’s the least reliable of all!”

He’d only told them after he’d investigated everything. Something this big, they should have been told the first time the Su family showed up.

Useless son. What a headache. Who knew if he could even look after his little brother?

Fu Mingyuan got smacked by his wife but didn’t dare complain. He still had to calm her down. Her heart had just been operated on, after all. She couldn’t get upset.

That same day, he called his son. “Look at you! You’ve made your mother upset!”

Fu Baihan, fresh out of a meeting with his head full of numbers: “?”

“We’re coming home the day after tomorrow. If we don’t see Nuonuo, don’t bother coming home either!” The head of the Fu family was just that cold.

The corner of Fu Baihan’s mouth twitched. He often wondered which trash can his father had found him in.

Hmph. Anyway, right now my little treasure is clingiest to me and thinks I’m the most important.

When Fu Baihan got home that evening and met Su Nuo’s eyes with a deep, serious look, Su Nuo instinctively sat up straight, put down his lollipop, and acted very good. “Brother?”

“Sweetie, would you like to move back to the old house?” Fu Baihan asked, slyly setting a trap.

Su Nuo shook his head. “No.”

The old house was big and luxurious, sure, but it was so far from downtown! If he moved there, he couldn’t commute every day. Wouldn’t he have to live in the dorms?

The little one, spoiled rotten by Fu Baihan, had completely forgotten his grand ambitions of living independently. The dorms? No such thing.

“Okay. Mom and Dad are coming home, but your studies come first. You don’t have to move back to the old house,” Fu Baihan finally explained.

“Wait, when?!” Su Nuo jumped up off the sofa. “Why didn’t Auntie tell me yesterday?”

“Last-minute decision.” Fu Baihan patted the kid’s head. “I hadn’t had a chance to tell you yet.”

Su Nuo thought about it and understood why the Fu parents were rushing back. It was because of him, because of the Su family… Everyone in the Fu family cared about him this much. It let him know he was loved and would never be abandoned.

Knowing the Fu parents were coming home, Su Nuo was in a great mood. Even when the people who kept popping up at school to annoy him showed up, he could stay calm.

In class, Yu Ning took the seat next to him. Su Nuo’s face went cold. “Did you drop out of your school next door?”

Yu Ning smiled. “Does Nuonuo want to see my class schedule?”

Su Nuo ignored him, sat down, and took out his textbook. If seats weren’t so hard to get for this class and there were any empty ones left, he’d have walked away immediately.

He thought he’d been more than rude enough to Yu Ning. Was Yu Ning really the type who got clingier the worse he was treated?

Su Nuo felt like he didn’t really know this person he’d grown up with anymore. Or rather, he’d never truly understood Yu Ning in either life.

“Nuonuo, have you had breakfast?” Yu Ning took out a rice ball and pushed a hot cocoa toward him. “Eat a little. Don’t get dizzy from low blood sugar.”

They’d known each other for over ten years. Yu Ning knew what he liked and knew his habits. In high school, Yu Ning had brought him breakfast every day. Even if Su Nuo had already eaten at home, he’d get fed again at school.

Su Nuo ignored him. Yu Ning didn’t give up. “You have so many morning classes. Can I come sit with you tomorrow too?”

Clearly he already knew Su Nuo’s schedule inside and out.

The bell rang. The professor remembered this student from another school who often sat in the front row, and teased cheerfully, “Young man, are you actually paying attention? Don’t just focus on romance.”

Yu Ning’s eyes were full of smiles. “I’ll pay attention, Professor.”

Su Nuo shot him an annoyed glare, but he couldn’t exactly jump up and announce that everyone had the wrong idea and they weren’t close. That would look even weirder. He was better off pretending he didn’t understand.

In the huge lecture hall, the girls in the back covered their mouths. Aaaah, so sweet!!!

What a perfect childhood-friends-to-lovers storyline! He comes over from Huaqing next door every single day to sit in class with him and bring him breakfast, so gentle, never getting mad no matter how cold Su Nuo is. And they’ve apparently been classmates since kindergarten! Look at his college life: already starred in a big-budget movie, and his boyfriend’s this handsome and accomplished. Meanwhile, look at me. Nothing. Just sitting here lonely and speechless.

If Su Nuo knew what people were thinking, he’d definitely feel cursed. Boyfriend? Ugh.

“Nuonuo, want to get lunch together?”

After a whole morning of classes, Yu Ning followed him for a while, grabbed the strap of Su Nuo’s backpack, and asked.

Fu Baihan had said he’d pick him up at noon, and then they’d go to the airport together to get his parents. They were almost at the parking lot, and Su Nuo didn’t have time to get rid of Yu Ning. He said impatiently, “Let go.”

Yu Ning looked a little hurt and pressed his lips together. “Nuonuo, I just wanted to…”

“Su Nuo!” Chu Boyan said in disbelief.

Last time at the ski resort, Su Nuo had said he had a boyfriend, which had left Chu Boyan shaken. Who would’ve thought he had another one at school?

Didn’t you used to say you only liked me?!

I’ve been cheated on. And more than once.

Su Nuo took a deep breath and glanced at the notification on his phone. It was Wei Sinian, inviting him to shoot a magazine cover together.

The whole set. Except for Su Yuchen, every fish in Su Yujin’s pond had shown up.

Did he forget to check his horoscope before leaving the house today?

How many times did he have to say it? He had zero interest in Su Yujin’s fish pond.

Chu Boyan stepped forward and grabbed his arm too. “You were lying to me before, weren’t you? You don’t have a boyfriend.”

After leaving the ski resort, he’d realized something was off. That man had clearly been Fu Baihan. No wonder he’d looked familiar.

Su Nuo had been adopted by the Fu family. How could he possibly be with Fu Baihan? It must have been some random excuse because he’d thought Chu Boyan was a creep hitting on him.

“Darling!” Su Nuo’s eyes lit up when he saw Fu Baihan get out of the car and walk over.

Seeing two men openly harassing his kid, Fu Baihan’s presence was overwhelming, like he was about to end them on the spot.

“Ow—” Chu Boyan clutched his wrist, feeling like his bones were about to snap. But seeing Fu Baihan, he didn’t dare get angry. He knew exactly where the Fu family stood.

Su Nuo used the pet name to signal Fu Baihan: time to work, get into character, quick.

“My boyfriend doesn’t like me talking to other people.” Su Nuo leaned against Fu Baihan and kissed the corner of his mouth, then turned to look at Chu Boyan and Yu Ning. “Stay away from me.”

Fu Baihan’s heart started beating faster. He looked down at the kid, who seemed to have kissed him without thinking, completely unaware he’d brushed his lips.

Was this really just acting? Fu Baihan’s eyes darkened. He licked his lips and tasted a hint of sweetness.

Chu Boyan and Yu Ning had no fight left in them against Fu Baihan, and they were stunned by everything Su Nuo had just revealed. They could only watch as Fu Baihan led him away.

After buckling his seatbelt, Su Nuo opened his mouth to say something. Then he met Fu Baihan’s gaze, his hand trembled, and his smile almost slipped.

Uh oh. I think I might have gone a little too far.
