Chapter 68: You Don’t Get to See Him

Fu Baihan was easy to win over. Even though he’d come to lecture the kid, one bit of cuteness and he couldn’t keep a straight face.

Everyone has their weakness. Even knowing that most of the time Su Nuo was deliberately whining to get his way, Fu Baihan fell for it every single time and was completely won over.

Seeing that Fu Baihan wasn’t refusing anymore, Su Nuo knew he’d given in. He dragged him toward the sofa. He was streaming from the game room, and the camera could only see the computer, the big screen, and even a professional gaming chair. Whatever his skill level, all his gear was top of the line, the kind pro players would envy.

But most of the time, Su Nuo used this room to watch movies with Fu Baihan. Curling up on the sofa was way more comfortable.

He fretted. “Let me end the stream first. Brother, stay still so you don’t get on camera.”

Fu Baihan said, “No need. Finish your stream.”

Su Nuo carefully adjusted the angle and made sure the camera could only see him, not Fu Baihan.

There were even more comments than when he’d started the stream, so many it made his head spin. A few eye-catching ones flashed by and made him feel guilty.

“Baby’s living with another man this late at night!”

“It’s his brother? Baby has a brother?”

“LOL, his brother must be watching the stream too. Caught baby calling other guys ‘big bro.’ He’s jealous.”

“Aaaah, baby can be this clingy?! This old mama’s health bar is empty!”

“Brother, how can you say no! How could you turn down a baby this cute?”

“Carry him up the ranks! If you can’t, let us!”

“Who are these guy fans who snuck in up there? You’re the ones who were calling our baby bad at games earlier, right? Changed your tune fast. Ha. Men.”

“Baby, Mama misjudged you. Using us as tools and then trying to end the stream? Doesn’t your conscience hurt?”

“Baby’s thinking he doesn’t need a conscience, he’s got his brother… By the way, this brother’s voice is so attractive. He spoils baby so much.”

“I’m just asking: who wouldn’t spoil a little treasure like this if he lived in their house?”

“Brother, from now on you’re everyone’s real brother! Tell him to keep streaming!”

Su Nuo cleared his throat. “I live with my brother. Sometimes he fills in as my assistant.”

“Whoa! The long-legged assistant?!”

“Baby, show us your brother’s face. We’re all family here, what’s the harm?”

“Not sure if I’m shipping it or it’s doomed, but even though they’re brothers, why is this even sweeter!”

Fu Baihan had the stream open on his phone, so he could see the comments too. He laughed softly. “Should we show them?”

“No!” Su Nuo said firmly, turning to him earnestly. “Brother, they all just want to ogle you. We can’t let them see.”

“And you?” Fu Baihan reached over and ruffled his hair.

Su Nuo understood what he meant. His eyes flickered. “Of course I’m different.”

I want more than just to look…

“Brother, hurry and start the game. Stop watching the stream.” Su Nuo nudged him.

Normally Su Nuo relied on Zhou Xuanxuan to carry him up the ranks. Even Xi Zhou had to take a back seat, since he wasn’t as good as Zhou Xuanxuan. But whenever Fu Baihan had time, Su Nuo’s routine was to hop on his head and wait for him to carry him to the stars.

Look how spoiled he was. He’d never even worked hard at a video game.

Once he ranked up, he’d streamed long enough. He grinned and said goodbye to his fans, ignoring their pleas to stay and logging off at top speed. He clearly couldn’t wait to clock out.

His manager had been glued to Su Nuo’s stream the whole time, and his mood was like a roller coaster.

He’d thought the little young master streaming a game couldn’t possibly go wrong. At worst, people would nitpick his skills. He never imagined the little young master would rip off President Fu’s “assistant” disguise.

And President Fu, too. The kid doesn’t know any better, so why are you going along with his nonsense?

But he couldn’t say anything to either of them. The manager could only keep watching silently.

Managing the little young master really was a ticket straight to the top, but it was also like walking a tightrope way up high. No other reason. He was too willful, and he had a big boss behind him who’d indulge him no matter what and pour fuel on the fire.

He’d been preparing a PR plan for when the little young master went public with his identity, but it wasn’t ready yet. He just hoped the brothers would stop giving him heart attacks in the meantime.

Weren’t they supposed to wait until he’d made a name for himself before going public?!

Men. Liars, every one of them.

Watching the fans’ conversation take a strange turn, the manager felt another big chunk of his hair fall out. If he hadn’t checked his bank balance and remembered how sweet it was to be bought off by a capitalist, he really would’ve cried out loud.

Good thing I never built a persona for the little young master. He’s way too good at breaking the rules himself.

The manager was stressed, but the fans were thrilled. They’d first followed Su Nuo for his face, and now that they’d interacted with him, they were getting to know him better.

Su Nuo’s team hadn’t done much while the movie was still unreleased. They’d kept a very low profile, and he’d gotten fewer opportunities from them than from Wei Sinian. In reality, it was because they were considering the little young master’s studies and hadn’t scheduled much for him. But in the fans’ eyes, it looked like they were some ragtag operation.

Of course. A brand-new studio and a brand-new entertainment company. What resources could they possibly have to support our baby?

The studio: “???”

Are you looking down on the Fu Group behind us?! Those mom-goggles are way too thick!

Before the stream, fans saw Su Nuo as a dashing young general. After the stream, he’d become a sweet little cuddle bug.

He wasn’t being cute at them, but the sweetness was so off the charts it got them anyway.

The everyday photos people caught of Su Nuo were all bright, sunny-boy shots. Put him in a white shirt and he was every girl’s perfect first crush.

Now his image wasn’t just a youthful boy. It was a rich young master too, because someone recognized the watch on “Brother’s” wrist from the stream. It was worth as much as an apartment.

They hadn’t seen his face, but he’d reached over to ruffle Su Nuo’s hair, so people analyzed everything.

The manager could only console himself: it’s fine. Now any endorsements for the little young master will look that much classier.

Fu Baihan did care about the kid’s career. Dropping in during the stream had been a spur-of-the-moment thing, but hearing people talk about him alongside Su Nuo gave him a sense of satisfaction. Maybe he just wanted everyone to know this was his kid.

Fu Baihan received the manager’s hint that he should keep a low profile. Whether he’d follow it was another matter. Depended on his mood.

Su Nuo blew up beyond his fandom again, drawing in new fans and plenty of haters too. With limited opportunities in the industry, artists of the same type were natural competitors.

At first Su Nuo had focused on his movie and hadn’t drawn much attention. But once he did a magazine shoot with Wei Sinian, livestreamed to lock in fans, and became more active, he started threatening other people’s interests.

For one, a few singing-and-dancing idols who’d debuted around the same time had similar images. The difference was that the little young master was a real young master. Anyone else claiming to be from a rich family next to him was a cheap knockoff.

His manager, operating on the principle that free perks should never be wasted, went straight to the top and requested the car endorsement for “Chengfeng.” It was a Fu Group brand, a household name, prestigious but still relatable. A great chance to win over the general public.

It was no secret that he was in talks with Chengfeng, and since he only managed one artist, it was obvious who the endorsement was for.

Chengfeng was launching a new line and needed a new face. Tons of artists had their eye on it, since it might air on major networks in prime time. Who wouldn’t want more people to remember them?

Apart from the stars who already had luxury endorsements and didn’t care, everyone else trying to climb the ladder wanted this chance.

Looks-wise, Su Nuo obviously stood out. But his work hadn’t come out yet, and his popularity felt shaky. Other teams hadn’t taken him seriously, until Chengfeng refused to even meet with them, turned them all down, and locked in Su Nuo as the new face.

“Where did this Su Nuo come from? Didn’t you tell me this endorsement was a sure thing?” Xue Zhi threw a fit at her manager in the dressing room.

Xue Zhi had debuted in a girl group, but the group flopped so hard it disbanded before ever getting popular. She’d struggled for years until this year, when a drama nobody expected to succeed became a surprise hit and she got buzz from a ship. She was about to climb into the B-list and was getting hotter by the day, with everyone fawning over her. She never expected to lose an endorsement she’d thought was a done deal.

She’d originally looked down on Chengfeng a bit and wanted a high-end fashion endorsement. But she had no endorsement track record, her team couldn’t land one, and they wanted her to start with Chengfeng, listing all the benefits. Now that it had fallen through, she was furious.

“Su Nuo is the newcomer who’s been blowing up from shipping with Best Actor Wei.” Her manager held in his frustration as he picked up the makeup she’d thrown everywhere and explained. “He’s managed by Chen Wenyu, at the entertainment company the Fu Group owns. It’s not surprising he got this endorsement.”

Put simply, they were all Fu Group people. Of course insiders got priority.

Xue Zhi ordered him around. “So it comes down to your incompetence.”

Her manager’s mouth twitched. “If you have a better option, feel free to replace me.”

What a piece of work. Only got famous at her age, riding ship buzz on one hand and playing the victim to win over fans on the other, constantly trending for messy drama. If she hadn’t found a sugar daddy throwing money at her image, who knew where she’d be now.

She’d gotten too big for her britches, thinking her current team wasn’t good enough. If she could find a better one, she was welcome to terminate the contract right now!

Xue Zhi and her manager parted on bad terms, but no matter how unhappy they were, the endorsement contract already had Su Nuo’s name on it.

Chen Wenyu patted the little young master on the shoulder. “Congratulations.”

Su Nuo blinked. “…Thanks?”

An endorsement for a Fu Group product. The money just went from one pocket to the other. What was there to congratulate?

“Congratulations on officially stepping into the cutthroat world of show business,” Chen Wenyu said. You haven’t really experienced it until you’ve been through a few catfights.
