Su Nuo couldn’t keep secrets from Fu Baihan. He was basically announcing “I’m planning something big but I’m not telling you.” Fu Baihan was happy to pretend not to notice to keep his little treasure happy.
They were supposedly dating, but things weren’t much different from before. Su Nuo had classes, and he had to confirm his schedule with the studio and follow their arrangements.
Since Fu Mingyuan had taken over part of the workload, Fu Baihan wasn’t as busy and had become the one going out of his way to see his boyfriend. He carried bags and fetched water, a dutiful little assistant at Su Nuo’s side.
The long-legged big brother was showing up more and more often, and even the studio staff started teasing. “Nuonuo, should we have Brother Chen budget for another salary?”
Su Nuo glanced at Fu Baihan and smiled. “He really should get paid.”
Fu Baihan stroked his hair without a word. Even with his mask on, everyone could tell from his cool brows and the straight line of his nose that he was a top-tier hunk, completely different in type from the young master.
They really were family. Such superior genes.
Su Nuo had always told everyone he was his brother, and no one thought twice, assuming they were related by blood.
As they chatted, Chen Wenyu came over with his laptop to go through the shooting schedule with Su Nuo and found the makeup artist gathered around him chatting, laughing when they saw him.
Chen Wenyu raised an eyebrow. “What, talking about me behind my back?”
“You bet, Brother Chen. You’re exploiting him so badly. You don’t even pay the assistant,” the makeup artist joked.
Chen Wenyu glanced at Fu Baihan sitting nearby and gave an awkward but polite smile.
The little ancestor’s backer was on supervision duty again today.
Me, exploit him? Forget this studio, every employee at Starlight Entertainment gets paid because of him. Get it straight who the capitalist is here.
The humble manager didn’t dare reveal the big boss’s identity. In show business, who doesn’t have a bit of acting talent?
Chen Wenyu treated Fu Baihan with careful respect, but he didn’t overdo it. The other staff never imagined the assistant they saw every day was the heir to the Fu Group. They just assumed Chen Wenyu was respectful toward Su Nuo’s family.
“What do you think would be a fair salary?” Every now and then, the mischievous manager was bold enough to tease his boss a bit.
He’d once felt like a kindergarten teacher babysitting someone else’s kid, and that was pretty accurate. He had to play house with both the parent and the child, and above all, make sure the little one was happy every day and didn’t go home and tattle.
Fu Baihan said, “No salary needed. I’m just here to see Nuonuo. I haven’t helped with anything.”
Su Nuo had his own assistant. Fu Baihan just wanted to be close to the kid, coming by in his free time to do little things and look after him a bit.
Chen Wenyu nodded. “Then no pay.”
Hehe. Being able to talk to the boss like this, he could probably strut around Fu Group headquarters with his hands on his hips.
Su Nuo’s assistant came back from talking with the photographer, seething with anger she couldn’t hold down. Seeing the rest of the studio team, her frustration welled up too. The young woman, new to the workforce, sniffled and held back tears.
“What’s wrong?” Su Nuo was the first to notice something was off and asked.
His assistant, Hang Yu, was only two years older than Su Nuo, also a fresh graduate on an internship. She was very capable and had been chosen by the company after several rounds of interviews to be assigned as his assistant. Su Nuo was an easy artist to work with, friendly and polite, never giving anyone a hard time. She got along well with him, almost like friends.
It was precisely because she truly cared about Su Nuo that the news she’d just heard made her even angrier.
Hang Yu was afraid Su Nuo would be upset, but she knew she couldn’t hide it. Rather than have him stay and be humiliated by the brand later, it was better for their side to respond first.
“Brother Chen, I just came back from the studio set and overheard people from the brand talking about breaking the contract. They’ve found another artist to shoot this ad, and they’re already on their way.”
The contract was signed, filming was about to start, and they were backing out at the last minute. They clearly didn’t take them seriously at all.
Their Nuonuo had already finished hair and makeup. Breaking the contract now, did they come here just to waste their time and be jerked around?
Chen Wenyu frowned. “You heard right?”
“Yes.” Hang Yu nodded. “They didn’t see me. I heard them say they’d come to notify us soon.”
Using the word “notify” made it even more dismissive.
Chen Wenyu kept things steady. “Don’t panic. I’ll go ask them. Nuonuo, don’t change out of your look yet. Wait for me.”
Su Nuo answered obediently, “Okay.”
Chen Wenyu hurried out of the dressing room, seething inside. The brand pulling this stunt was grinding his face into the ground!
And in front of the boss, no less! President Fu wouldn’t think he couldn’t protect the young master, would he?
Seeing that Su Nuo wasn’t angry, Fu Baihan squeezed his palm. “You okay?”
Su Nuo comforted the makeup artist, his assistant, and the others. Everyone was indignant, but he himself didn’t feel much. In his past life he’d been swapped out halfway like this so many times that he’d gone almost numb.
Show business was no paradise. He was popular now thanks to He Yun, but in terms of seniority he wasn’t near the top, and there’d always be people who thought he was easy to push around.
But now that Fu Baihan asked, a little hurt welled up after all. He looked over and pouted.
Fu Baihan comforted him, lowering his voice. “Sweetie, do you want this ad?”
Whatever his little treasure wanted, he could lay it at his feet.
Su Nuo shook his head. “Not anymore.”
He knew with Chen Wenyu’s temper, now that he knew about this, he’d never let it go. There’d be plenty of back-and-forth with the brand.
He didn’t want to keep working with a brand that had no respect for contracts anyway. They’d jerked him around, already posted the promotional teaser on Weibo, and now they were swapping him out. All the money his fans had spent on orders was wasted.
Willing to pay a penalty just to replace him? How little did they think of him!
After a while, Chen Wenyu came back, looking fairly calm. “Nuonuo, today’s schedule is canceled. I’ll talk to them about compensation. Why don’t you go home?”
“Brother Chen, it’s fine. If this one doesn’t work out, there’s always the next. It’s not like we went begging them,” Su Nuo said, comforting Chen Wenyu with a great attitude.
Get the supply and demand straight. He was the one in demand!
Chen Wenyu looked at the young master, who wasn’t taking it to heart, and sighed. With a naive kid like this, no wonder the boss didn’t feel safe and kept an eye on him personally. Let him go out on his own, carefree as he was, and he’d get bullied to death.
Su Nuo asked curiously, “Who are they replacing me with? Is it settled?”
“That Su Yujin who did the web drama.”
In his past life, his opportunities had always been ruined by Su Yujin. He hadn’t expected it to happen again after being reborn.
It showed that even with the timeline reset, Su Yujin wasn’t innocent.
He hadn’t gone back to the Su family and had no conflict of interest with Su Yujin, yet Su Yujin still chose to target him.
Su Nuo could never understand how Su Yujin’s mind worked, how he had the nerve to make trouble for him.
He was the one whose life had been stolen. Why did Su Yujin always show up playing the victim? Ugh.
Su Nuo opened his mouth but didn’t know what to say. Hearing the name Su Yujin felt deeply ironic.
Fate? He didn’t believe in fate. He only believed in himself.
It was just a lipstick ad. The brand had signed him as a brand ambassador for a year. They probably figured the penalty wasn’t too high and that Su Yujin had offered enough perks, so they’d simply dropped him.
Chen Wenyu didn’t say anything on the surface, but after sending the kid off, he messaged Fu Baihan with all the details. Besides keeping the parent informed, he was also tattling in a natural, unaffected way.
Someone like this dares to bully the young master. President Fu, what do you want to do?
Fu Baihan’s fingertips moved as he replied: “Have the Fu Group’s lawyers talk to them.”
So they want to solve a breach of contract with money? Then they’d better be prepared to pay more.
And while they’re at it, check how this brand is doing in the Fu Group’s shopping malls. Kick them out and bring in another brand.
Chen Wenyu had planned to make them bleed anyway. As a top-tier manager with real clout, he could have done it himself. But with Fu Baihan around, he’d gotten lazy and was enjoying the easy life.
He only heard later that the Fu Group’s malls had refused to continue working with the brand. He wanted to throw both hands in the air and cheer for President Fu.
Domineering CEO style. What an eye-opener.
“Su Yujin again.” Su Nuo leaned against Fu Baihan’s shoulder, not in a great mood. He didn’t care about one ad. He just hated the irritation that came with Su Yujin constantly targeting him.
Like a mosquito. It’s not that you can’t swat it, but it’s still annoying.
“The Su family doesn’t know their place,” Fu Baihan said, putting an arm around him. “They need to be taught a lesson.”
Not sending the adopted son away was one thing. Since the kid wasn’t going back, no one cared if the Su family kept their adopted son at home. But they absolutely should not have let him go out and bully his kid.
Just thinking about it made Fu Baihan’s heart ache. Everyone in the Fu family was careful and rarely mentioned the Su family in front of Su Nuo, afraid it would upset him.
Whatever else could be said, the way the Su family had acted showed they’d never sincerely treated him as their own son.
Hurt like that, even if he acted like he didn’t care, it must be painful inside.
The Fu family was searching for that nanny from years ago. The Su family had done nothing, but the Fu family wouldn’t let Su Nuo be wronged for nothing. No matter how many years had passed, whoever belonged in prison would go there.
As for Su Yujin, the one who’d benefited from it all, instead of keeping his head down, he kept going after the kid at every turn. A cuckoo in someone else’s nest, with such a thick face.
The Fu family had originally lifted the Su family up because of their blood tie to Su Nuo. As long as that tie existed and the Su family treated Su Nuo well, their market value could have doubled before long. But they insisted on going off the rails.
If the Fu family wanted to make things hard for the Su family, to put it dramatically, it would be easier than crushing an ant.
