Chapter 21: The Ultimate Brother-Spoiler

Before Fu Baihan became the aloof, untouchable man he was now, his parents had raised him like a little prince too. As for why he ended up with an even more commanding presence than Fu Mingyuan, the Fu parents refused to take the blame.

They had never held back their love for Fu Baihan. Even though they were one of the wealthiest families around, the couple was deeply in love, and there was none of the messy drama other rich families had. They never put too much pressure on Fu Baihan either, and they were always open-minded about how he grew up.

The only explanation for how Fu Baihan turned out was that he had perfectly inherited the legacy of the old patriarch of the Fu family.

The Fu family had been wealthy for generations, but that didn’t mean they’d never faced a crisis. In Fu Baihan’s grandfather’s time, the family almost went bankrupt. But the old man turned the tide. He didn’t just pull them through the crisis. He took the Fu family to a whole new level and turned it into an unshakable giant.

Fu Mingyuan’s personality was relatively mild, which had a lot to do with how strong-willed the old man had been. After Fu Mingyuan took over the Fu Group, the stock price rose steadily. The storms he thought were huge were nothing but small potatoes to the old man.

By the time his son came along, the more Fu Mingyuan looked at Fu Baihan, the more he looked like the old man. Sometimes, standing in front of his own son, Fu Mingyuan felt a step behind.

What do you do when it feels like you gave birth to a copy of your own dad?

Happily retire and hand the position over to your more capable son, of course!

As a kid, he had his dad to brag about. Later, he had his son. The one who really got the winner’s script in life was Fu Mingyuan.

With his father, Fu Baihan could sometimes be strictly businesslike, like a boss and an employee. But with his mother, he was always a gentle, caring son.

Su Jing’s health was poor, so the whole family tried hard to protect her and keep her happy. Before marrying Fu Mingyuan, Su Jing had been a well-known concert pianist. Growing up with her influence and company, Fu Baihan played the piano really well, much better than Su Nuo.

After enjoying his brother’s rare performance, Su Nuo laid on the praise. “Brother, you’re the best pianist in the whole world!”

“Nuonuo, have you been slacking on your piano practice lately?” Fu Baihan suddenly switched into homework-checking parent mode.

“…Huh?”

What kind of demon brother are you!

“Want to move back to the old house? You could practice every day,” Fu Baihan suggested, as if it were no big deal.

Su Nuo shook his head. “No. Auntie treasures this piano too much. Besides, the old house isn’t convenient. You could just buy me a new one for the apartment.”

“Sure. Pick one out when we get back and let me know.” Fu Baihan agreed without a second thought.

It wasn’t until after he’d played two rounds of a PvP match in the game room that Su Nuo finally thought about how many gifts he’d gotten lately.

In just over half a month since the college entrance exam, he’d gotten three limited-edition sports cars, not to mention the new computer and gaming consoles at the apartment, plus his own clothes and shoes. And now a piano was on order too.

Other kids lived off their parents. He lived straight off his brother-spoiling big brother.

But even when he paid for things himself, it was with Fu Baihan’s secondary card, so it was all the same.

So why does my brother still pay for my stuff after giving me his card? Probably because he’s just way too rich.

Thinking about where Fu Baihan ranked on the rich list, Su Nuo’s slightly aching conscience packed up and left home.

My brother is basically the richest guy around. There’s no way I could ever spend him broke.

“Brother, am I spending too much money?” Su Nuo leaned in and asked.

Seeing the fake concern on the kid’s face, Fu Baihan pinched his cheek. “Yes. I can’t afford you anymore. No more allowance from now on.”

Su Nuo flailed under his hand. “That’s not how the script is supposed to go!”

“How’s it supposed to go?” Fu Baihan teased. “Am I supposed to say, ‘I only make money so you can blow it’?”

Su Nuo blinked. “Yep. Then I can pretend to say no, you insist, and then I accept.”

“Cut the act, sweetie. I can easily afford to spoil just you.”

Su Nuo said quietly, “Once I have a sister-in-law, you won’t be able to afford me anymore.”

Until Fu Baihan got married, they were each other’s closest family, and Su Nuo could cling to him and bug him as much as he wanted without feeling bad about it. But once Fu Baihan got married and started a new family, Su Nuo would have to know his place and keep his distance.

“I’ll always be able to afford you. I gave you my card and you still doubt me? Ungrateful little thing.” Fu Baihan finished squishing his little brother’s face and let go. “Enough games. Let’s go downstairs and eat.”

Fu Baihan knew the kid hadn’t meant anything by it, but it also showed what he really thought deep down. It made Fu Baihan feel a little helpless, and any promise he could make seemed hollow.

Maybe the love he’d given still wasn’t enough to make an insecure kid feel sure of himself?

Fu Baihan knew he’d never have this kind of patience for anyone else the way he did for Su Nuo. Even if he had his own kids someday, he wouldn’t spoil them this much.

So his little brother really was a high-maintenance little prince.

The staff at the old house had all worked for the Fu family for over ten years. They were very fond of both boys and happy to see them come home. Especially the little young master. No matter how much they took care of him, it never felt like enough.

Look how skinny the poor kid is. Is he even eating properly out there?

Only the two brothers and the special assistant ate together. Su Nuo got extra attention and wasn’t allowed to leave until he’d been watched finishing his entire bowl of soup.

On the way back to the city, Su Nuo hiccuped. “Brother, did Auntie Chen used to raise pigs?”

Fu Baihan was working in the car and answered absently, “The little piglet’s a disappointment. Eats and eats but never puts on weight. Won’t sell for a good price.”

Su Nuo: “…” He felt personally attacked.

After a while, Fu Baihan reached over and touched his stomach. “Did you really overeat?”

Su Nuo was indignant. “Would I make that up?!”

“Stop by the nearest pharmacy and grab a box of digestive tablets,” Fu Baihan instructed.

The special assistant, who’d been listening the whole time, held back a laugh. “Sure thing.”

The little young master was so cute. He really was still young. But who knew the CEO had a side that bickered with his little brother? Tsk tsk tsk, at his age.

Good thing Fu Baihan didn’t know what he was thinking. Otherwise he could forget about a year-end bonus.

The CEO with double standards was just that cold and ruthless.

Fu Baihan had freed up more than half a day to spend with him. As soon as they got back to the city, he went straight to the office for a meeting. Su Nuo took over his office, curled up on the sofa, and leisurely looked up Director Wang’s email address, then sent over his résumé.

He knew they still hadn’t been able to cast the young general, so later on they gave up and opened it to public auditions, even letting film school students try out. Su Nuo didn’t go straight to Wei Sinian. He’d get a spot no matter what.

Wei Sinian’s approval needed to be saved for when it really mattered.

Meanwhile, the Best Actor he was ignoring started to suspect something was wrong with his phone. Otherwise, why wasn’t he getting any messages?

Would anyone really get his contact info and just ignore it?

Wei Sinian thought back to the boy’s cool, indifferent expression, and figured he really wasn’t as charming as he thought.
