Chapter 22: Picky

After sending the email, Su Nuo stopped thinking about the audition. As for Wei Sinian, he cared even less.

Sure, he’d taken the business card, but he never said he’d get in touch.

Su Nuo felt like a little kid waiting for his parent to get off work, with nothing to do and no way to sneak off.

After the drinking incident, Fu Baihan hadn’t scolded him, but he’d set a curfew right away and blocked Ji Xinghui.

Ji Xinghui had lost all credibility with Fu Baihan. He could forget about getting anywhere near his precious little brother again.

Su Nuo wasn’t the party type anyway, so he didn’t mind Fu Baihan keeping him in line. He was thoughtful like that. If he took his brother’s gifts, he’d listen to his brother.

After two rounds of a game, Su Nuo lost interest and got up to get some coffee from the break room.

The moment the secretaries saw him, they showered him with greetings and stuffed his arms full of snacks, and he fled in a hurry.

Seriously, those ladies were so young. Why did they look at him like he was their son?

He had no idea when Fu Baihan’s meeting would end, and he didn’t want to bother him with a message. Being a domineering CEO wasn’t easy, after all.

“Miss Zhao, the CEO doesn’t have time today. Please come back another time.”

Hearing the secretary’s polite refusal in the hallway, Su Nuo got curious and walked toward the secretary’s office.

“Didn’t Uncle Fu tell you? I have plans with Baihan for dinner tonight.” The long-haired woman wore flawless makeup and was dressed head to toe in this season’s newest luxury pieces. If her expression hadn’t been so snobby, people might have given her a second look.

“I’m sorry, there’s no appointment with you on the CEO’s schedule today.” The secretary’s smile was perfectly polite, but she was clearly losing patience. This wasn’t this woman’s first visit. The CEO couldn’t even be bothered to see her, and she still had the nerve to keep showing up, acting like she was already the lady of the house.

Please. As if they wouldn’t know whether the CEO was seeing anyone.

The ultimate brother-obsessed man spent every waking moment either working or with his little brother. When would he even have time to date a woman?

“Why is he here?” The woman turned, saw Su Nuo, and raised an eyebrow. “Didn’t you say no one’s allowed to bother Baihan?”

The secretary’s tone toward her turned icy. “The little young master can come whenever he likes.”

Throwing yourself at someone wasn’t a crime. Their CEO was young and successful and attracted admirers like crazy. But throwing yourself at him and then trying to push the little young master around? That was asking for trouble.

Su Nuo could feel the hostility and was baffled. He was just passing by and watching the drama. Why was he getting attacked?

“Sis Xinxin, who’s this?” Su Nuo asked, holding his coffee.

The secretary’s attitude turned gentle the instant she looked at him. “A visitor who didn’t make an appointment.”

Trying to barge in to see your brother just because of her family name.

“You!” The woman was so angry she nearly lost her elegant composure and almost cursed out loud.

Su Nuo knew the secretaries could handle it, but since this woman had mentioned Fu Mingyuan, he was a little worried she might be someone the family was setting Fu Baihan up with. If the secretary just sent her away, it might not look good.

Better let his brother deal with it himself. No need to make the secretaries handle his brother’s bad romances.

He gave the secretary a look and led the woman to the reception room. “My brother’s still in a meeting. If you need something, you can wait here for a bit.”

“Looks like Uncle Fu was right. You’re actually pretty sensible.” The woman looked Su Nuo up and down and passed judgment.

Su Nuo figured something was wrong with her head and didn’t want to get tangled up in it. He was about to leave when she called him back. “Get me a glass of water. With honey.”

Su Nuo: “…” Wow. She wasn’t even his sister-in-law yet.

I need to tell my brother to keep his eyes wide open when he picks a girlfriend.

Su Nuo didn’t really want to deal with her anymore, but then he thought, if the family really was introducing her to Fu Baihan as a possible future wife, then he should check her out for his brother. The more she acted like this, the more her true colors would show.

Come on, was it that hard to play nice big sister in front of me? She probably just looked down on him as the “adopted kid.”

Su Nuo went to get her water. The secretary who saw this frowned, checked the time, talked to a coworker, and headed straight for the conference room.

Trying to bully the little young master on their turf? Not very smart.

Su Nuo had been to banquets with the Fu parents, and they’d never hidden who he was, so it wasn’t surprising that this woman knew he used to be an orphan the Fu family sponsored.

As far as Zhao Xinya was concerned, Fu Baihan was obviously the best catch, but she hated the extra baggage that came with him: Su Nuo.

The Fu family was so foolish. Sponsoring was fine. Every rich family did charity to look good. But bringing a sponsored orphan home, raising him like their own son, and even giving him shares? They must be out of their minds.

What right did he have to Fu Group shares?

And Fu Baihan was even bringing him to the office. Wasn’t he afraid of raising an ungrateful wolf who’d fight him for the family fortune someday?

She’d originally thought Su Nuo was just good at sucking up to the older generation and had the Fu parents wrapped around his finger. But seeing Fu Baihan indulge him just as much made her really unhappy.

Once she married Fu Baihan, she definitely didn’t want Fu Group shares ending up with Su Nuo, someone who wasn’t even related to them by blood.

When Fu Baihan arrived and saw his little brother being ordered around by someone else, his face darkened. He pushed the door open and took the glass out of Su Nuo’s hands.

“Did you burn yourself? Didn’t I tell you not to touch the hot water kettle?” Fu Baihan ignored the other person in the room completely and only cared about his brother.

Su Nuo: “…No, I didn’t.”

Brother, you’re overdoing it. I’m not so dumb I can’t even get hot water.

“Baihan, yesterday Uncle Fu said you’d be free today…” Seeing him, Zhao Xinya stood up happily.

“Miss Zhao, if this is how the Zhao family raises its children, I’m afraid I can’t agree with it.” Fu Baihan’s expression was cold. “Whoever made you that promise, go talk to them. I don’t have time.”

Embarrassed like that, Zhao Xinya’s face turned ugly. She wanted to say more, but Fu Baihan had already left with Su Nuo, leaving the secretary to politely show her out once again.

“Why did you even bother with her?” Fu Baihan flicked his brother’s forehead. “Just send her away.”

Su Nuo lowered his head. “What if you like her and she becomes my sister-in-law? Shouldn’t I try to get on her good side?”

“Come here.” Fu Baihan sat down on the sofa and patted the spot next to him.

Su Nuo glanced at him and scooted closer, only to have Fu Baihan reach over and mess up his hair. “Little rascal.”

Su Nuo wasn’t having it. “…Hmph.”

“No matter who it is, if you don’t like them, they don’t get through the door. If anyone’s doing the sucking up, it’s other people sucking up to you. Got it?” Fu Baihan sighed. “I’ll talk to Dad later and tell him to stop setting things up randomly. Today was his fault, letting some random person come and bully our Nuonuo.”

Su Nuo’s eyes darted around, and he sounded less sure of himself. “She didn’t really bully me. I did it on purpose. I wanted you to see she’s no good.”

“It won’t happen again.” Fu Baihan looked at him. “Don’t be upset.”
