It wasn’t just Wei Sinian’s fans acting strange. Wei Sinian himself was acting strange too. Everyone in the industry knew Best Actor Wei was the hardest person to get close to. Sometimes you could work with him on several films and still only be on nodding terms.
So why was he reposting a newcomer’s Weibo?
If it was to help promote the production, he hadn’t even reposted the production’s post that tagged him.
At first, Su Nuo hadn’t caught the attention of the gossip crowd at all. But after Wei Sinian liked and reposted him, his follower count started climbing at a terrifying speed.
People came to see what the fuss was about, and then fell head over heels for his gorgeous official stills.
Since when were newcomers in show business this high-quality?!
Even the book fans, who were incredibly picky about the character, had nothing to say. After all, if they weren’t happy with a young general like this, there was probably no one else who could play him.
Whatever his acting was like, his looks and costume alone passed with flying colors.
Making a living off your face really was that powerful.
Su Nuo had no idea about all the commotion under his account. After reposting the production’s promo, he hadn’t gone back on Weibo. He didn’t care about the buzz. High or low, praise or hate, he could face it all calmly.
In his past life, after he took on the role of Heng Yu, he was criticized nonstop right up until the movie came out. Only the box office numbers turned things around.
Later, his opportunities were stolen, he was gradually pushed to the sidelines and shelved, and Su Yujin played the victim to fan the flames and paint him as vicious. Even so, his Heng Yu was still the beloved first love of period dramas.
When it came to confidence in his grasp of the character, Su Nuo had plenty.
He was sitting at his computer playing a game when his phone rang on the desk. Su Nuo checked the game, found a patch of grass in the safe zone to lie down in, and called to his teammate. “Xi Zhou, I’m taking a call. Come cover me.”
Xi Zhou was looting gear in a house not far away. Complaining the whole time, he had his character jump out the window to go protect him. “Seriously? Is your brother checking up on you again?”
Fu Baihan was stricter with Su Nuo than Xi Zhou’s own dad was with him!
“No, it’s my manager.” Su Nuo was too absorbed in the game. He answered Xi Zhou, then took the call half-distracted. “Brother Chen, what’s up?”
“Nuonuo, have you checked Weibo?” His manager had also been poached with the power of money. He only managed the little young master, the job was easy, and the backing was solid. He basically managed Su Nuo with the mindset of a kindergarten teacher. Whether the kid achieved anything didn’t matter. What mattered was that the kid had fun and the parent felt reassured.
Su Nuo was confused. “No. I reposted the production’s promo. Do I need to do anything else?”
His manager instructed, “When you have time, go reply to Best Actor Wei on Weibo. We’re still in the promo period. Ignoring him won’t look good.”
Su Nuo wasn’t very enthusiastic. “Okay. Tomorrow.”
Manager: “Sure. You’ve got this week off. See if there are any ads you want to take.”
“Okay, thanks, Brother Chen.” Su Nuo thanked him sweetly.
When he got back in the game, Xi Zhou teased him. “Big star, already interacting with a Best Actor on Weibo?”
Su Nuo yawned. “I don’t have time to interact with him. I’m busy ranking up with you.”
“Sure, you and your sweet talk.” Xi Zhou tossed him a pile of attachments. “Xuanxuan went to a party tonight, so I’m only carrying you. Should be an easy climb.”
Su Nuo grinned. “I’m telling Sis Xuanxuan you think she’s bad at the game.”
Xi Zhou: “Wow, do you have a conscience? Then I’m telling President Fu you’re sneaking games and staying up late.”
“Go ahead. My brother won’t listen to you anyway.”
While they were bickering like little kids, they got sniped out of nowhere and were both knocked out of the game.
Su Nuo hadn’t gotten his chicken dinner yet and was annoyed. “Let’s play a squad match. Again.”
“Random teammates always end up dying. You never believe me.” Xi Zhou pulled him into a party. “Couldn’t find regular teammates, so we’re matching randomly.”
“It’s almost midnight. We have to win this one,” Su Nuo muttered to Xi Zhou. “Or I’ll be too mad to sleep.”
“Who needs sleep? Results are out. Enjoy your break.” Xi Zhou egged him on. “How about an all-nighter?”
Su Nuo wavered for a second, then shot it down. “Can’t. My brother’s coming home later.”
Xi Zhou couldn’t believe it. “Your brother actually checks whether you’re asleep when he gets home?”
Was Fu Baihan really that scary? His own parents only checked on him at night before he started elementary school.
“He’ll see my light on…” Su Nuo scrunched up his face. “And then he’ll make me drink a giant glass of milk. I’m so over it.”
Those few times, even his burps tasted like milk. Now just seeing milk made him want to play dead.
“Brother complexes are terrifying,” Xi Zhou said offhandedly. “Isn’t your brother a little too controlling? What are you going to do when you live in the dorms?”
Su Nuo didn’t like that. “My brother isn’t controlling. He just cares about me!”
Xi Zhou: “…Fine. You two really are a match made in heaven.”
“Where’d you learn such a corny line?” Su Nuo huffed. “My brother bought me a yacht last week.”
Xi Zhou: “What???” He was stunned. “What do you need a yacht for? Do you know how expensive the maintenance alone is?!”
“No idea. I’ve got my brother’s card anyway.” Su Nuo was very pleased with himself.
Xi Zhou ground his teeth. “So now you’re showing off to me?”
The Xi family was neighbors with the Fu family, so they obviously weren’t poor. It wasn’t that Xi Zhou couldn’t afford a yacht. His family just didn’t spoil their kids like that. His money had limits, and if he spent too much, his family wouldn’t cover it.
He was jealous. He was genuinely, deeply jealous.
Sure, the brother-obsessed guy was strict, but he also gave way too much!
“I’m taking you out with this grenade right now.” Xi Zhou was fuming.
This little brat. Every time his brother came up, he got this insufferable look.
“Nyeh nyeh nyeh.” Su Nuo kept gloating. “I have a big brother and you don’t!”
“Oh, well, I have a girlfriend. Do you?” Xi Zhou wasn’t about to let him off and shot right back.
Su Nuo: “…Let’s not compare. Give me your AK first. I haven’t found a weapon.”
“Noobs don’t deserve guns,” Xi Zhou refused coldly. “Even grabbing you an airdrop last round was a waste.”
He’s mad, he’s mad. Turns out flexing your wealth is a bad idea, even when the person you’re flexing on is an heir to a rich family.
“You’ve changed! Didn’t you say you’d carry me? This is it?” Su Nuo yelled. “Cheapskate!”
“Hehe.” Xi Zhou enjoyed the joy of bullying a little brother.
“Bro, you two… what kind of family are you from?” A teammate’s voice came through the headset, full of confusion. “Is this a scripted stream?”
Su Nuo: “You turned on team voice chat?”
Xi Zhou: “…Maybe? I didn’t notice. We haven’t played squads in a while.”
The random teammate who was still alive: “Don’t turn it off, don’t turn it off! You guys seriously aren’t streaming?”
Su Nuo was glad he’d hung up with his manager before starting this match. Otherwise his cover would’ve been blown in a heartbeat.
As much as he always wanted to show off his brother, he also wanted to become someone his brother could be proud of. So until he made a name for himself in the industry, he had no plans to go public about who he was.
Su Nuo cleared his throat. “Yep, we’re streaming. Got you, hahaha…”
“What a coincidence, I’m streaming too! Little bro, your voice is really nice, and the script’s not bad. Which platform?”
Damn it. Busted anyway.
“Next time I’m gonna pretend to flex on randoms too. That’s gotta feel great. Hehe, you two are out of luck, I saw right through you. Gotta work on that acting.” The teammate got chatty and rambled on and on, even critiquing their acting.
Su Nuo was about to brush him off, mute the voice chat, and quit the game, but before he could, there was a knock on his door.
“Sweetie, playing games again?” Fu Baihan’s voice came from the door, helpless but indulgent.
“I’m going to bed right now! You should get some rest too, Brother!” Su Nuo didn’t dare open the door and fumbled around for the voice button.
Fu Baihan decided the kid’s rebellious phase clearly wasn’t over. “You’re coming to the office with me tomorrow. Stop bugging Xi Zhou all the time.”
Xi Zhou: “…” Dude, I can hear you.
You’re a domineering CEO who makes a hundred million a minute, and you’re that bored? So bugging me is bad, but bugging you at your office is fine?
That’s controlling!!!
My silly Nuonuo, your brother isn’t nearly as innocent as you think.
Su Nuo slipped on his slippers, ran over to open the door, and looked up at him. “Brother, I finally get a day off. Tomorrow I want to…”
Fu Baihan pinched his cheek. “You want to work.”
Su Nuo drooped. “…This is capitalist exploitation.”
“You want to go out and play that badly?” Fu Baihan sighed. “Then I guess I’ll have to push back the yacht transfer paperwork.”
“I want to work!” Su Nuo shook his arm. “Brother, I’ll go to the office with you tomorrow!”
Fu Baihan poked his forehead. “Go to bed. No staying up late playing games.”
“Little bro, you’re not being honest. That’s your brother? That’s your man, isn’t it? We don’t judge same-sex couples, you don’t have to hide it,” the random teammate said, amazed.
Su Nuo was shocked. “I didn’t turn off the voice chat?!”
Xi Zhou couldn’t stop laughing. “Silly kid, you turned off nothing.”
“Are you two married? You sound pretty young…”
“No!!!” Su Nuo swallowed his embarrassment. “I’m done. I’m uninstalling this game right now.”
Xi Zhou laughed his head off. When he was done and saw Su Nuo had quit the game, he called him to cheer him up. “It’s fine. They don’t know who you are.”
Su Nuo: “I should never have played tonight.”
“Is the problem really the game? It’s because you just had to show off your brother. Let’s see if you’re still gonna brag after this.” Xi Zhou was enjoying his long-awaited revenge. “Turns out bragging comes with karma, and it comes fast.”
“I’m still gonna brag.” Su Nuo huffed. “I’ll have my brother buy that streaming platform.”
Though he seemed to have already bought a few. Who knew if the one tonight was one of them.
If Fu Baihan was going to take a slice of the entertainment pie, he’d push projects across the board. It protected his kid and brought in huge profits at the same time.
“Spending your brother’s money like that, are you married to him or something?” Xi Zhou kept laughing.
Su Nuo: “…Shut up.”
