Chapter 7: In His Bedroom

Su Nuo didn’t sleep well that night either. He kept tossing and turning. How much disappointment did it take to wipe out more than ten years of friendship and treat someone like a stranger?

He wasn’t naturally this sharp-tempered. But what Su Yujin had brought into his life was mostly irrational hysteria, and it had slowly turned him into someone he didn’t recognize.

Someone who had already died once wouldn’t be so impulsive anymore.

But being calm didn’t mean he didn’t hurt. Some wounds couldn’t be seen or touched now, but they hadn’t healed. His past life was like a thorn stuck in his heart, constantly reminding him who to stay away from.

Su Nuo went downstairs for some water and noticed the study light was still on. He checked the time, warmed up a glass of milk, and brought it up to knock on the door.

“Still not asleep?” Fu Baihan put down his pen. He looked a little tired, and frowned when he saw Su Nuo.

If one of his executives saw that look, they’d probably be so scared they’d turn around and run. But Su Nuo wasn’t scared at all. To him, Fu Baihan’s sternness was just a paper tiger.

“You’re not asleep either.” He set the milk on Fu Baihan’s desk. “Can you still handle staying up this late at your age?”

Fu Baihan laughed in spite of himself and pinched his cheek. “And how old am I?”

“You’ve got to accept getting old, Brother.” Su Nuo blinked.

Fu Baihan carried the whole Fu family on his shoulders. Everyone who met him praised him as a talented young man and envied Fu Mingyuan for having such a great son. At every event, he was the youngest and most eye-catching among all the business leaders.

But he really was seven years older than the kid. When the kid started middle school, he was already working on projects with his father.

Fu Baihan squished his little brother’s cheeks and let it go. “Go to bed.”

Su Nuo rubbed his eyes. “Brother, I want to sleep in your room.”

There was nothing romantic about it. He used to play games with Fu Baihan and just fall asleep in his room when it got late. That was why there were two pillows on Fu Baihan’s bed.

With his little brother acting so cute, Fu Baihan, who had been working late, shut down his computer and took Su Nuo back to his room.

“Phone. Hand it over.” Fu Baihan held out his hand.

“Brother…” Su Nuo kicked off his slippers and lay down on his bed.

Countless people wanted to get into Fu Baihan’s bed, but so far, the only “little charmer” who had ever made it there was Su Nuo.

And once he got there, his phone got confiscated and games were banned.

“Hand it over.” Fu Baihan was unmoved this time, cold and merciless.

After putting Su Nuo’s phone far away on the desk, Fu Baihan turned the AC up and started unbuttoning his shirt. “Kids who stay up late don’t grow taller. Be good.”

Su Nuo: “…”

He kicked Fu Baihan’s blanket, huffed, and rolled over with the covers pulled over his head.

He could still grow taller! He was still young!

Mean brother!

When Fu Baihan came back from his shower and saw the kid curled up on his bed like a fuzzy caterpillar, he went over and tugged the blanket down to uncover Su Nuo’s face. Su Nuo blinked at him sleepily, then rolled over and went back to sleep.

As soon as Fu Baihan pulled back the covers and lay down, a hand reached over and grabbed his pajamas, quietly, sneakily like a little thief, yet totally shameless about it.

The kid seemed even clingier than he had been a few years ago. Fu Baihan thought it over and felt sure that besides that close call, something else must have upset Su Nuo.

But was his kid really the type to get bullied outside and not say a word?

In the first couple of years, maybe. But now the kid was spoiled rotten. Acting cute and tattling were his specialties, because he finally believed they would never abandon him or leave him on his own.

But this was way too unusual. Fu Baihan thought it through carefully. Wasn’t the kid going through a rebellious phase not long ago, telling him he’d move into the dorms once college started? So why did he now need someone with him just to fall asleep?

Either way, staying home and behaving was a good thing. No bars, no street racing, and he knew to keep his busy older brother company. What a good boy.

Fu Baihan conveniently ignored all the trouble Su Nuo caused him at home and decided his little brother was just impossibly well-behaved.

Guess that’s what seeing your little brother through rose-tinted glasses looks like.

Early in the morning, Su Nuo heard a phone ringing. Without thinking, he grabbed it and answered, still grumpy from waking up. “Hello?”

The special assistant on the other end didn’t dare make a sound. He sucked in a sharp breath and carefully double-checked the number. It was definitely his CEO’s phone. So why was a young guy answering?

It felt like he had stumbled onto something huge. How was he supposed to handle his boss coming out out of nowhere?

“Who’s this?” Su Nuo hadn’t even opened his eyes. He’d been woken up and the person on the other end wasn’t saying anything, so he didn’t sound very friendly.

“Nuonuo, this is my phone.” Fu Baihan reached over and took the phone away from his cheek, his voice low and husky from just waking up.

But Su Nuo wasn’t swayed at all. He yawned sleepily. “Oops, sorry.”

Fu Baihan poked his forehead. “Go wash up and get dressed. Come downstairs for breakfast.”

The call was still connected, and the special assistant finally realized the voice on the other end was their little young master. He let out half a sigh of relief. Thank goodness, the CEO wasn’t throwing away his image to fool around with some young guy.

He was supposed to be the cold, untouchable type. Everyone had bet that Fu Baihan wouldn’t have a lover or partner before he turned thirty.

Wow, listen to that. What kind of parenting channel was their CEO running this early in the morning? He sounded just like an old dad calling his kid down for breakfast.

Maybe it was because the little young master had given the CEO an early taste of parenthood that he had no interest in dating?

Tsk tsk tsk, the little young master was really something.

Fu Baihan’s gentleness vanished in an instant. He said to the assistant, “What is it?”

His tone was all business now, and the assistant automatically straightened his back, as if he were reporting face to face.

“The doctor in the U.S. sent an email. Madam’s health is in good shape, so the surgery can be moved up.”

“Okay. Once the date is set, adjust my schedule,” Fu Baihan instructed.

“Got it.”

Only after the call ended did the assistant finally relax. He opened the secretaries’ little group chat to vent: “The CEO plays favorites so hard. One second he’s smiling at the little young master, and the moment he takes my call, he’s ice cold.”

The secretaries were used to it and comforted him. “It’s not the first time. Everyone knows the CEO plays favorites.”

“Maybe his side job is face-changing.”

“A national-level face-changing master.”

“The little young master is so cute, of course he smiles at him. You’re just the CEO’s work-recording machine.”

“Wait, they’re together this early in the morning?”

……

Watching the secretaries go totally off topic, the assistant couldn’t help sighing. They really only cared about looks. The whole chat was little young master this, little young master that. Didn’t anyone care that he’d gotten up this early to work?!
