Under orders to deliver supplies to Qin Yu at Yazheng Peak, Tang Si arrived to find him sitting alone on a rock, lost in thought. He walked over and slapped him on the back.
“Well, if it isn’t our celebrity!”
Recognizing Tang Si, Qin Yu suppressed his irritation.
“Oh, it’s you, senior brother!”
“What are you sitting here daydreaming about?”
Tang Si leaned closer with an amused grin.
“I have to hand it to you! First, Immortal Lord Yazheng takes you as his very first disciple, and then your fiancée joins Tiannan Divine Sect right after. Cultivation and a Dao companion—you’ve got it all. You really are winning at life!”
“Fiancée?”
Qin Yu was bewildered.
He did not remember the original owner having a fiancée.
“System, get out here! Since when do I have a fiancée?”
【Liu Wanrou’s aptitude was insufficient to gain admission to Tiannan Divine Sect. After learning that you had become Immortal Lord Yazheng’s disciple, she deliberately led others to believe she was your fiancée. Out of regard for Immortal Lord Yazheng, Wei Zhenghai had Perfected Lord Xingyun take her as a disciple.】
“Wasn’t she supposed to enter Tiannan Divine Sect as Jiang Fu’s fiancée? Wei Zhenghai is the sect master. Can’t he pull a few strings for his precious disciple?”
【Between Wei Zhenghai and Immortal Lord Yazheng, who do you think carries more weight?】
“I’m going to clear this up right now.”
He despised manipulative hypocrites who played innocent. Whether they were women posing as delicate flowers or men feigning harmless sweetness, they clung to you while you were useful. Once you were not, they squeezed out every last benefit before discarding you like a worn-out shoe.
And Liu Wanrou embodied both varieties.
The thought of that woman going around claiming to be his fiancée made him sick.
He stood to head down the mountain.
Tang Si, however, assumed he was eager to see his beautiful bride-to-be and caught his arm.
“Even if you can’t wait to see your wife, is there really any need to rush like this?”
“Yes. There is.”
If he did not explain things immediately, he would never be able to clear his name.
“Then don’t say your senior brother didn’t warn you. You’ve got a strange smell on you, and it’s pretty unpleasant. Careful you don’t stink your wife into running away.”
“A strange smell?”
Qin Yu raised his arm and sniffed. A sour odor hit him full in the face, nearly making him vomit again.
Had he been carrying that smell around this entire time?
Damn it, his image!
“Thank you, senior brother. I’ll treat you to a meal when I get the chance.”
He hurriedly bade Tang Si farewell and ran back to Yazheng Hall.
The moment he entered, he saw Yu Lancheng seated on a cushioned couch beside the window, reading a blue-bound book. The warm evening sunlight draped him in a pale golden glow. He was as beautiful as a deity untouched by the mortal world.
For a moment, Qin Yu could only stare.
If this man entered the modern entertainment industry, wouldn’t women go wild over him?
The moment Qin Yu appeared, Yu Lancheng’s spiritual sense locked onto him. The boy looked uneasy, even a little awkward, yet his eyes remained clear, showing none of the terror Yu Lancheng had hoped for. Tsk. Was he acting again, or had he truly not figured it out?
He set down his book and asked, “Has A-Yu finished his business?”
“What business?” Qin Yu asked reflexively.
“Didn’t A-Yu go to collect the things the sect master sent?”
Qin Yu glanced down at the bundle in his arms and hurriedly nodded.
“Yes, yes. This disciple went to collect his things.”
He could hardly admit that he had just mistaken his master for a deranged murderer.
As though he had not noticed the lie, Yu Lancheng let the matter pass and pointed toward a side hall.
“A-Yu will stay there from now on. If there is anything you don’t understand, come and ask me whenever you like. I will clear up your doubts.”
There were only the two of them on Yazheng Peak, and Qin Yu agreed that living nearby would be convenient. He readily accepted.
“Thank you, Master.”
“This disciple will go and settle into his room. I won’t disturb your peace any further today.”
“Go.”
Upon reaching the side hall, Qin Yu discovered that there was little cleaning to do. The room was already spotless; he only needed to put his belongings away.
Tang Si had brought him two sets of blue-and-white disciple robes and a copy of Tiannan Divine Sect’s rules. He hung up one set, took the other, and headed out toward the rear slopes of Yazheng Peak.
Unfortunately, he knew only that there was a hot spring somewhere behind the mountain, not the exact route. He wandered for nearly four hours, practically wearing his legs out before finally finding it.
“Good heavens. At last.”
Unable to wait any longer, he stripped off his clothes and jumped into the water. Only when the warmth enveloped his entire body did he release a contented sigh.
Finally, a chance to relax.
【I advise you to leave this place.】
Qin Yu rested his head on a rock by the edge, his whole body pleasantly languid. He paid no attention whatsoever to the system’s warning.
“Even beasts of burden get a break. This is my time off. Please don’t disturb me. Thank you.”
【You are my host. I won’t harm you.】
He had heard that sort of line from his boss countless times in his previous life. However wonderful the promises sounded, wasn’t the ultimate goal always to work him like a beast of burden?
“Yes, yes. You won’t harm me. You’ll just work me half to death.”
【……】
Now the system was annoyed too. It would simply sit back and wait for a certain someone to come crying for help.
With the system no longer bothering him, Qin Yu comfortably drifted off.
He slept until deep into the night.
Half asleep, he was awakened by the sound of water. He cracked his eyes open and looked toward it. Not far away, someone sat in the water with his bare back turned to him. Smooth silver hair spread across the water, a bloody glimmer flickering through it beneath the moonlight.
He jolted in fright, instantly wide awake.
“Who’s there?”
Yu Lancheng turned around.
“Are you awake, A-Yu?”
Qin Yu rubbed his eyes hard, closed them, then opened them again. Only after confirming that the person sitting there was his master, whose hair was as black as ink, did he let out a deep sigh of relief. He really must have been seeing things.
Come to think of it, this was Immortal Lord Yazheng’s territory. What ghost or monster would be foolish enough to come here looking for trouble?
“Forgive me, Master. I was still half asleep and mistook what I saw.”
Yu Lancheng watched Qin Yu through the steam. Those beautiful, finely shaped dark eyes still held traces of drowsiness and confusion. That was something he could not have faked.
Had he failed to get a clear look?
“It’s all right.”
Yu Lancheng turned away, presenting his back to Qin Yu again, and lowered his voice.
“To tell the truth, I rather envy Immortal Lord Yunlang and the others. When they’re bored, their disciples cheer them up. When they’re angry, their disciples listen to their troubles. Their disciples even look after their meals, clothing, and daily needs, though they have no need of such care.”
Huh? Was his master secretly envious of other people for having disciples?
He had been neglecting his duties!
“Whatever other masters have, you should have too. Whatever other masters don’t have, you should still have!”
Qin Yu moved behind Yu Lancheng.
“Master, let me give you a head massage. I promise it’ll feel wonderful.”
Without waiting for an answer, he reached out.
Yu Lancheng stood up and evaded his hands. His eyes narrowed, a sinister gleam flickering in their depths like a hawk hunting at night.
He wanted this little liar to notice something was wrong with him. Who wanted a massage?!
