Chapter 44: My Beloved

Su Nuo saw Chu Boyan and noticed how strangely he was acting. In this timeline, they should still be total strangers. So why did Chu Boyan look so shaken the moment he saw him?

Fu Baihan was holding Su Nuo steady, teaching him to ski. It wasn’t the kid’s first time here, but he always slacked off and had never properly learned.

Seeing Su Nuo glance at Chu Boyan a few times, Fu Baihan asked, “Someone you know?”

This wasn’t a private ski resort, so running into people from home this time of year was normal. Who had his kid spotted?

The acting skills Su Nuo had sharpened on set came in handy. He shook his head. “No. He keeps staring at me. It’s weird.”

Fu Baihan finished checking Su Nuo’s gear and stood up, hands on his knees. “Not weird. Our sweetie’s a big star, after all.”

Even with gloves on, Su Nuo could still punch him. “Brother!”

You’re acting out of character. Please stay a domineering CEO. Don’t suddenly swing over to being a childish brother who loves picking on his little brother.

Fu Baihan ignored Chu Boyan. His kid was strikingly good-looking, and people were always checking him out openly or on the sly whenever they went out. No matter how protective Fu Baihan was, he couldn’t control strangers’ eyes.

Back when girls used to stare at Su Nuo, Fu Baihan was in the mood to tease him about it. But now that he knew Su Nuo’s sexuality, he was on guard against every man around them. Who knew if they had their eye on his kid?

“Okay, try a lap on your own.” Fu Baihan let go so Su Nuo could practice by himself.

Su Nuo had been the one begging to go skiing, but now that they were here, he didn’t want to fall.

Feeling like he was about to lose his balance and slide down flat on his back at any moment, Su Nuo held out his hands pitifully. “Brother, pull me along.”

Fu Baihan lectured him helplessly. “You… if you slack off like this again, I’m never bringing you back.”

Su Nuo huffed. He’d said the exact same thing last time.

Su Nuo crouched down, eyes full of hope. “Brother, come on.”

Getting pulled along by Fu Baihan for a stretch, Su Nuo rediscovered a childhood joy. Back at the orphanage, when it snowed and froze in winter, the kids would play on the ice like this, one pulling another.

When they stopped to rest, something popped into Su Nuo’s head and he couldn’t stop laughing. Fu Baihan had a feeling the kid was up to no good.

Sure enough, the kid who’d just made him do all the pulling said, gasping with laughter, “Brother, do you know what dog sledding is?”

Fu Baihan raised an eyebrow. So now he was the dog?

He pulled off his glove, reached over, and pinched the soft part of Su Nuo’s cheek. “Sweetie, how about I leave you here and come pick you up next year?”

“Go ahead.” Su Nuo wasn’t scared at all. “Nyeh nyeh nyeh.”

This kid really needed a spanking.

Fu Baihan picked Su Nuo up, then let go and watched him topple into the snow, the corner of his mouth lifting.

Won’t learn to ski, and still has the nerve to provoke his big brother on the slopes. Tsk.

Su Nuo didn’t bother getting up and threw a tantrum instead. “I’m telling Auntie. You only ever pick on me. I’m so pitiful…”

Fu Baihan watched him flail for a while, enjoyed the show, then put away his phone. “When your movie comes out, I’m leaking this video.”

Su Nuo: “???”

What kind of monster are you!

Seeing the kid stare at him in shock, Fu Baihan was in a great mood. He held out his hand. “Up.”

Su Nuo pouted. “If I get up just because you told me to, I’ll lose face.”

“See you next year, then?” Fu Baihan said on purpose.

“You’re the worst!” Su Nuo fumed, grabbed his hand to stand up, then, lightning fast, shoved the snowball he’d been hiding in his palm down Fu Baihan’s collar and tried to wobble away.

With his beginner skills, Fu Baihan didn’t even need to chase him. He’d fall on his own. Fu Baihan didn’t rush. Sure enough, the kid didn’t get far before plopping down on his own. At least it wasn’t face-first.

“Asking for trouble.” Fu Baihan cleaned the snow out of his clothes. A snowball fight with his little brother here was a bit childish, but seeing how happy the kid was, he couldn’t help joining in.

They grabbed snow right there and threw a few rounds. Su Nuo couldn’t win the fight and couldn’t escape either. His eyes darted around, he came up with a plan, and covered his eyes. “Ow!”

Fu Baihan knew the little rascal was probably faking, but he still worried and went over to check. “Did it hit you?”

And then he got a hidden snowball right in the face. Fu Baihan sighed quietly. What could he do? He’d spoiled the kid himself.

Chu Boyan watched Su Nuo laughing his head off, stunned. In the memories from his dreams, Su Nuo had never been like this.

Su Nuo was always quiet and well-behaved. He’d never seen him goofing around like this, or throwing a little tantrum when he lost.

Was this his beloved? Or just someone with the exact same face?

Chu Boyan’s thoughts were a mess, and for a moment he didn’t know how to approach.

And who was the man with Su Nuo? He stood by him like an absolute protector, played with him, even let him win on purpose to make him happy.

What was their relationship? Didn’t Su Nuo say Chu Boyan was his first love?

Chu Boyan’s head was spinning. On one hand, he wondered if he’d just been cheated on. On the other, he wondered why Su Nuo’s personality had changed.

Chu Boyan had never paid much attention to Su Nuo before, which fit the original plot. After all, Su Nuo had only been cannon fodder to push Chu Boyan and Su Yujin together. How could cannon fodder ever matter to the male lead?

All Chu Boyan knew was that Su Nuo was the Su family’s switched-at-birth child, so he resented Su Yujin and kept targeting him. Normally he was very measured, but around Su Yujin he showed his worst side. That lack of submissiveness slowly cooled Chu Boyan off, even though he’d pursued Su Nuo so passionately at first.

What Chu Boyan really wanted was probably just a pet bird who’d depend on him and couldn’t survive without him. Su Nuo looked the part, but inside he was tough, and Chu Boyan couldn’t accept that.

Their relationship had probably only ever been skin-deep, starting with looks.

Su Nuo had agreed to date him because he’d been in such a daze during that time. Chu Boyan’s care and attention while pursuing him had made him feel warm. He’d wanted to climb out of the darkness and find something new to hold onto, so he didn’t think too hard before making it official.

Back then Su Nuo had only just started college. Every part of his life had been turned upside down, and before he’d even matured, he’d been forced to grow up.

There had been a time when he leaned on Chu Boyan for support. But once he saw Su Yujin and Chu Boyan together, he buried every hope he’d had.

He was far more angry than hurt. He despised Chu Boyan for being so fickle and changing his heart so easily, and he hated Su Yujin with everything he had for targeting him.

What gave Su Yujin the right?

Su Yujin’s mother had stolen Su Nuo, abandoned him, and let her own son enjoy the family that should have been Su Nuo’s, growing up showered with love and care. Meanwhile, before the Fu family started sponsoring him, Su Nuo didn’t even have warm enough clothes in winter.

And when the truth came out, Su Yujin didn’t feel the slightest bit guilty. He cast himself as the victim and tried to make Su Nuo take the blame for things he never did.

Su Nuo had never understood Su Yujin’s logic. Later he figured it out: Su Yujin was just shameless, with no limits at all. Bad to the core.

But this very Su Yujin had everyone around him defending him like they were under a spell.

Su Nuo had been wronged and suffered. He knew how strange Su Yujin was, and that anyone he’d ever been close to would have their minds changed by Su Yujin. He’d even suspected Su Yujin was using some kind of curse.

It wasn’t until he was reborn that Su Nuo realized it was all the plot.

Su Yujin was the protagonist, so naturally he’d have everything and become everyone’s favorite.

Was fate impossible to defy?

Su Nuo didn’t believe that.

He was still alive. The Fu family was still here. That proved the so-called fate had already been changed by him.

He wasn’t afraid of Su Yujin, and he didn’t care about those people. But not making a move didn’t mean he wouldn’t get revenge.

A kid raised by the Fu family wasn’t going to quietly take a loss without fighting back.

Things were calm now only because it wasn’t time yet. Su Nuo didn’t want Su Yujin ruining the happiness of being reunited with the Fu family.

He’d make Su Yujin and that woman pay. A grudge built up over two lifetimes had to be settled.

Su Nuo was patient enough to wait. Because with people this greedy and selfish, the only real price was to let them think they were right on the verge of success, and then slam them down so hard they could never get back up.

After changing out of their ski gear, Su Nuo and Fu Baihan went to rest nearby. Since they were abroad, there was no need to hide. No masks, no hats, no sunglasses. They looked foreign here, but beauty has no borders. Wherever they went, they stood out in the crowd.

Fu Baihan was cold and serious and hard to approach, but Su Nuo, smiling sweetly beside him, caught a lot of people’s attention.

Just like the secretaries always said, who could see a little treasure like this and not like him?

While waiting to order, Su Nuo turned away four or five people who came up to flirt with him. All men.

Fu Baihan’s face got darker and darker. He wanted to hide the kid away immediately.

As if any of you are good enough to hit on my kid.

Fu Baihan thought pickily. Not one of them was good enough.

In reality, most people here were rich, and the guys who approached Su Nuo were all charming and well-mannered. It was just that, to Fu Baihan, every one of them looked hideous.

At first, Su Nuo turned them down politely. Later he just pretended he didn’t understand their language and ignored them.

Then Chu Boyan came over and handed him a hot coffee. “Can we get to know each other?”

The scene overlapped perfectly with Su Nuo’s memory. Back then, Chu Boyan had entered his life exactly like this.

He wasn’t falling into the same hole twice.

Su Nuo smiled, hooked his arm through Fu Baihan’s, and said lightly, “I already have someone I love.”

Chu Boyan’s and Fu Baihan’s eyes met. In the end, Chu Boyan was the one who backed down, because Su Nuo’s attention wasn’t on him at all. He didn’t give him a single extra glance.

“Darling, let’s go camping tomorrow, okay?” Su Nuo rose up a little on his toes and kissed Fu Baihan on the cheek.

Fu Baihan went stiff, but still played along. “…Whatever you want.”
