Chapter 43: The Ex-Boyfriend

After hearing his little brother’s confession, Fu Baihan couldn’t shake the feeling that the precious little treasure he’d worked so hard to raise could be lured away by someone at any moment.

So before the kid made up his mind to run off with some random guy, it was better to keep him right where Fu Baihan could see him.

He gave himself two weeks off and stayed away from the office, which made the secretaries even busier than usual. Just as they were drowning in work, they saw the CEO’s social media posts of him and the little young master having fun abroad, and the whole office turned sour with envy.

But they still had to like his posts. After all, he was the one paying their salaries.

So capitalists really don’t have a conscience!

Su Nuo was really happy to go abroad with Fu Baihan. First they went to see Su Jing, who was recovering after surgery, and Fu Mingyuan, who was busy taking care of her. They stayed a week to spend proper time with them.

Fu Mingyuan watched his wife being cheered up by the boys every day and got a little jealous. The moment the kids arrived, there was no room left for him.

Fu Baihan had originally planned to take the kid to an island. The Fu family had built up wealth over generations, with properties not only at home but overseas. They even owned a few castles abroad, and private islands too. They could go to one, and even pick which one.

But the kid kept talking about wanting to see snow, so of course Fu Baihan chose to make that happen.

Summer wasn’t the best season for skiing in Switzerland, but some slopes stayed open year-round. Besides, the weather this time of year was more pleasant, perfect for taking the kid sightseeing.

“Auntie, I’ll take lots of pictures for you!” Before leaving, Su Nuo was full of excitement. He was in a light, happy mood. Seeing Su Jing’s condition with his own eyes and knowing she was getting better had finally lifted the weight that had been sitting on his heart.

“Okay.” Su Jing smiled warmly. “Tell your brother to take nice pictures of our Nuonuo.”

Su Nuo glanced at Fu Baihan, who was sitting beside them peeling an apple, and wrinkled his nose. “Brother can’t take pictures at all. Hmph. Auntie, you have to get better fast. I want to travel with you!”

Of course, the person with the best taste in this family was the lady of the house. She was an artist, after all.

Charmed by him, Su Jing joined in roasting her own son. “That’s right, traveling with your brother must be so boring. My poor Nuonuo…”

Fu Baihan was helpless. One was his own mother, the other his precious little brother. He couldn’t argue with either of them, so he just let them tease him.

Fu Mingyuan watched the show with a chuckle. His eldest son only ever stood up to him, but here he didn’t dare say a word.

Fu Baihan finished cutting the apple and gave half to Su Jing and half to Su Nuo. Fu Mingyuan, who’d been enjoying the show, suddenly felt left out.

“You don’t see that I’m here too?” He couldn’t believe it. Did his son not even notice his own father?

Fu Baihan’s lips twitched. “There’s more in the fruit bowl. Can’t you peel your own?”

Fu Mingyuan: “…”

Infuriating! What kind of son did I raise?!

“Taking Nuonuo on a long trip. Is everything arranged? Have them get the house ready ahead of time.” Fu Mingyuan put on his stern face.

“I know,” Fu Baihan answered flatly.

Su Nuo quietly tugged his sleeve and winked at him where Fu Mingyuan couldn’t see.

Hurry up and butter up your old man!

“Dad, the flight route isn’t ready yet. Could you arrange it for me?” Fu Baihan sighed and gave in.

Fu Mingyuan regained his fatherly authority and nodded. “I knew you weren’t reliable. I’ll have to do it myself.”

What else could Fu Baihan do? His little brother was a little drama queen, and his dad was just as dramatic. He was used to it.

“Uncle, I want to take the same plane as last time.” Su Nuo’s eyes sparkled with anticipation.

“You like that one? I’ll give it to you later.” Fu Mingyuan was in a great mood.

This was exactly what he loved about little Nuonuo: whenever he wanted something, he came straight to him! No awkwardness at all, and he trusted his old man completely!

Not like his eldest son, who never told him anything and complained that he was too controlling.

Su Nuo looked smugly at Fu Baihan and got his forehead flicked.

In ancient times, this dad would’ve been a foolish emperor, happily letting a sweet-talking kid drain the family treasury.

Su Jing jumped to Su Nuo’s defense. “Why are you hitting my sweetie? Is that how a big brother acts?”

Fu Baihan stood up. “I’ll just go alone. You all only want this little rascal anyway.”

The elders had spoiled him so much that the kid was getting more and more rebellious.

Fu Baihan conveniently ignored his own limitless indulgence. He was just as bad, and he had the nerve to say others spoiled the kid.

“Go on.” Su Jing patted Su Nuo. “Your brother needs some cheering up too.”

Su Nuo smiled and went out after Fu Baihan, jumping onto his back. “Brother, I don’t want the plane. You can have it!”

“If it’s given to you, take it.” Fu Baihan held him up. “Do you like the plane or the yacht better?”

Even gifts had to compete. How could his kid get bored of things so fast? Wasn’t the brand-new yacht good enough anymore?

Su Nuo said honestly, “Both.”

Hehe, so this is what it feels like to be spoiled by a capitalist?

So happy!

The delighted kid spent the trip on the private jet and mischievously posted a photo: “Said the plane looked nice once. Now it’s mine.”

Xi Zhou’s message popped up first. “Su Nuo! We can still be friends if you stop flexing!!!”

Su Nuo replied, “I’m not flexing. Doesn’t your family have a private jet too?”

Apart from classmates, his friends list was full of kids from wealthy families. Everyone more or less knew how much the others were worth.

Xi Zhou wanted to weep bitter tears. Sure, his family had one, but they didn’t hand it over just because he said he liked it!

Who could compete with how lavishly the Fu family raised their kid?

No wonder they’d ended up with such a spoiled little treasure.

“Change of subject. Where are you flying to?” Xi Zhou decided not to keep crushing his own poor soul.

“Vacation. My brother’s taking me to Switzerland,” Su Nuo replied.

Xi Zhou got even more jealous. He usually found Fu Baihan terrifying and didn’t dare go near him, but Fu Baihan really was good to Su Nuo. Just because the kid was on summer break, he’d cleared his schedule to take him on vacation.

Comparison really is the thief of joy. Xi Zhou had never gotten that kind of treatment, but he could still console himself: he had a girlfriend, and Su Nuo didn’t!

“Have fun.” Jealous or not, Xi Zhou still wanted Su Nuo to be happy. He also let something slip. “Yu Ning keeps asking me about you lately. I told him you went abroad. He can’t exactly follow you there.”

Yu Ning had excellent grades, but his family was just ordinary middle class, nothing like their wealthy circle.

Xi Zhou had only met Yu Ning through Su Nuo, and the two of them had never been very close. They only seemed friendly when Su Nuo was around. Now that Su Nuo and Yu Ning seemed to have fallen out, Xi Zhou had even less to do with him.

Yu Ning really didn’t follow him. But on vacation, Su Nuo ran into someone else he never expected.

His boyfriend from his past life, Chu Boyan.

If Su Nuo’s script in his past life was the tragic cannon fodder, then Chu Boyan was Su Yujin’s official love interest, the main male lead.

The Chu and Su families had an arranged marriage, and the two were about the same age. Chu Boyan had been Su Yujin’s fiancé since childhood, but they’d always kept a polite distance, and Chu Boyan never showed any intention of going through with the engagement.

The Chu family held the power over the engagement. The Su family desperately wanted it to happen, but couldn’t control how things went.

When Su Nuo was first reborn and learned his world was a book, he couldn’t accept it at first. But later he made peace with it. No matter what, what he saw was real.

As a protagonist, Chu Boyan had most of the classic melodrama traits.

Tall, long legs, and gorgeous were the basic settings. On top of that, he had insomnia that magically disappeared whenever he was around Su Yujin.

Because he never slept well, his first impression on people was fierce, like someone you didn’t want to mess with.

He hated being tied down by the engagement and never even looked at Su Yujin properly. Later, he met Su Nuo at a restaurant near school, and after a few encounters, became Su Nuo’s boyfriend. Then, after learning about the whole melodramatic mess between Su Nuo and Su Yujin, he suddenly started to think Su Yujin was his true love.

Especially since being around Su Yujin made him feel relaxed, he became convinced the two of them were made for each other, and couldn’t wait to break up with Su Nuo.

Just remembering it made Su Nuo sick.

Couldn’t you two disasters just get together from the start? Did you have to drag other people down to make your weird love story look good?

Ever since Chu Boyan used his connections to protect Su Yujin’s birth mother right before she was about to be prosecuted, Su Nuo had wanted to twist his head right off.

With values that warped, what was he even using his head for?

In Chu Boyan’s eyes, Su Yujin was a fragile little white flower, and Su Nuo was a scheming, petty villain who only knew revenge.

After Su Nuo’s death, Chu Boyan seemed to suddenly wake up. He finally saw through Su Yujin’s spell, and looking back, all he had left was regret he could never undo.

What had he done?

Su Nuo had loved him so much, and all he’d given Su Nuo was endless pain.

He’d betrayed Su Nuo, and even added fuel to the fire when Su Nuo was falling apart, crushing his last hope.

All Su Nuo had wanted was to put the nanny who’d stolen his life in prison. He’d survived out of sheer luck. If not for that, he would’ve died out there after being abandoned.

On top of that, that woman had said Su Nuo was cursed, that his bad luck was what tore the Fu family apart.

To Su Nuo back then, those words were like a knife plunged into his heart, pushing him into despair.

If Su Nuo felt nothing toward Wei Sinian, then toward Chu Boyan, it was hatred, one layer deeper.

Running into Chu Boyan at the ski slope was something Su Nuo never expected. His face darkened. He wanted nothing to do with him, but before he could leave, Chu Boyan came after him.

“Nuonuo…” The moment the name left his lips, Chu Boyan stopped himself in a panic. At this point, Su Nuo didn’t know him yet, didn’t like him yet. How could he possibly know Su Nuo’s name?

For the past two weeks, Chu Boyan had been having the same dream over and over. In it, there was a beautiful, radiant boy who loved him with his whole heart and waited for him, while he did so many things to hurt him. Only after the boy was gone did he realize who mattered most to him.

Chu Boyan had always thought the dream made no sense, until he came abroad to clear his head and ran into the boy from his dreams.
