Chapter 53: Don’t You Want Me Anymore, Brother?

When the Fu family first started sponsoring the orphanage, they had looked into Su Nuo’s background. They knew he’d been abandoned right after he was born, left in the woods in the mountains, and had nearly died before ending up at the orphanage. The only reason he had a surname was a tiny embroidered character, “Su,” on his swaddling blanket.

A healthy and strikingly good-looking child like Su Nuo had people wanting to adopt him from a very young age. He just never agreed, so it never happened. Even back then, Fu Baihan could tell that the kid might look sweet and delicate, but he was actually very stubborn.

When they first tried to bring him home, he refused them too. But Su Jing kept at it, visiting him often, and it took more than a year before he trusted the Fu family enough to let them take care of him.

Su Nuo’s household registration wasn’t with the Fu family, and they’d never done a formal adoption. That was because of a promise Fu Mingyuan made back then: they wouldn’t force Su Nuo to be his son. If he ever wanted to find his birth parents and live with them, the Fu family would never stand in his way.

Right now, Fu Baihan wished he could go back in time and stop his father from making that decision. Never stand in his way? Just imagining the kid leaving with someone else made him so agitated he couldn’t control it.

Of course he’d never heard of the Su family. Their company wasn’t even qualified to do business with the Fu Group. But just as the Su family had found a lead from nothing more than photos online, Fu Baihan had to admit there was a resemblance around the eyes.

The kid’s birth parents had been found. He should have been happy for him. He knew better than anyone how much Su Nuo envied people with whole families. But he couldn’t bring himself to feel truly glad. What he felt was resistance and panic.

The kid might leave him, leave the Fu family. He had a biological older brother. They were a family bound by blood. And what was Fu Baihan?

Fu Baihan’s face was ice cold. “Eighteen years ago, was the Su family so desperate that you’d abandon your own child?”

Just thinking about how close the kid had come to dying the moment he was born, Fu Baihan couldn’t hold back his anger.

You lost your own son. How do you have the nerve to come looking for him now?

Mr. Su hurried to explain. “Of course not! We have no idea how the babies were switched… We’re investigating. But Su Nuo is very likely our child. Mr. Fu, could you let us see him and do a DNA test?”

Fu Baihan was angry at them for no good reason. A DNA test was the normal procedure, but he just felt the kid had been wronged for nothing.

“Nuonuo is the Fu family’s treasure. Whatever the results, I’m not letting you take him.” Irresponsible parents. If they didn’t even know how they’d lost their child, they could forget about showing up at his door and taking the kid away.

“How can you do this? If he’s our son, we…” The Su couple couldn’t accept how forcefully Fu Baihan was turning them down.

“I certainly can.” Fu Baihan’s expression was cold, carrying an overwhelming pressure. Even though the Sus were older, they still shrank back in front of him.

Simply because he was Fu Baihan, he could decide however he pleased.

Su Nuo had no idea his brother was throwing his weight around for him. He was just a little bored at the livestream and quietly asked Wei Sinian, “Senior, how much longer is this?”

Wei Sinian leaned down closer to him. “What?” As if he hadn’t heard.

Su Nuo looked around, saw no one was paying attention, and repeated a little louder, “How much longer is this?”

Wei Sinian checked the time. “Half an hour. Let the director know. If you’re not feeling well, go home early.”

“Half an hour…” Su Nuo propped his chin in his hand. “Never mind. I can hang in there.”

The comments were going wild, even more heated than when the two of them were right at the front of the camera.

“What secret are you two whispering that us premium VIP members aren’t allowed to hear?”

“Why is Best Actor Wei suddenly being so flirty? It looks like he’s trying to seduce the little one!”

“Nuonuo, don’t fall for it! What’s so great about Wei Sinian? He’s just your average youngest-ever Best Actor.”

“Wow, so this is how Wei Sinian’s fans humblebrag? Thank you, thank you, I’ve learned something.”

“Don’t bother learning that. Who besides Wei Sinian could possibly humblebrag like that?”

“So what is Best Actor Wei saying? I really want to know…”

“Nuonuo is so sweet, hahahahahaha, does this kid think we can’t see them?”

“Probably… tsk tsk tsk. Baby, you’ve been exposed. Everyone’s watching.”

“I do not approve of this match! Wei Sinian, don’t you dare rob the cradle! Nuonuo is mine!”

“If I hadn’t seen your Wei Sinian fan badge, I would’ve cussed you out.”

“You don’t approve? His Majesty will sentence you to death in a heartbeat!”

Everyone else in front of the interactive screen had smiles frozen on their faces. What could they do? No one was paying attention to them anyway. All eyes were on those two.

That same day, the video of the two of them whispering became an iconic moment for the ship that spread far beyond the fandom. It got so much attention that fans of other celebrities thought Wei Sinian had actually gone public with a relationship.

Some people did accuse Su Nuo of being cold and disrespectful to Wei Sinian, but they got shut down immediately. Can’t you see how happy our Best Actor is? Besides, with his temper, would he let someone brush him off without saying anything? Do we really need to remind you how clearly Wei Sinian shows who he likes and dislikes?

Wake up. He obviously has a thing for the newcomer!

After the livestream ended, Wei Sinian walked with Su Nuo down to the underground parking garage. “Want me to give you a ride?”

Su Nuo shook his head. “No need, senior. My assistant’s coming to get me.”

Wei Sinian looked at him, was silent for a moment, then finally spoke. “You don’t have to call me senior.”

They’d filmed together every day for over a month, and yet the boy was always so distant with him. Wei Sinian suspected he hadn’t gotten out of character. He Yun loved the young general, and Wei Sinian couldn’t take his eyes off Su Nuo either.

But clearly, his young general only existed on camera. Once they were off set, all Su Nuo would ever do was politely call him “senior.”

Su Nuo was confused. Had Wei Sinian taken the wrong medication? In his past life, Wei Sinian had accused him of not knowing his place. Why was he now telling him not to be so formal?

There was definitely something wrong with him.

“You are my senior, though.” Su Nuo smiled. “My ride’s here. I’ll head out.”

Wei Sinian wanted to say something, but in the end he just nodded. “Okay. See you next time.”

When Su Nuo got in the car, he saw his manager was there too. “Didn’t you say you were busy this afternoon and I should get home on my own?”

The manager said carefully, “Nuonuo, President Fu wants you to come see him at the office.”

Su Nuo blinked. “What’s wrong? I go there all the time.”

The manager wiped cold sweat off his forehead. “I have no idea what’s going on! President Fu called me directly, and he sounded absolutely terrifying!” He rubbed his arms. “Nuonuo, be honest with me. You didn’t make him mad, did you?”

Didn’t President Fu treasure the little young master above all else? For him to be that angry, it had to be something earth-shattering!

Su Nuo had no idea. “No.”

He’d been super good today!

Fu Baihan had even made him breakfast this morning and promised to take him out to dinner later. Why would he be mad?

Su Nuo took out his phone and saw that Fu Baihan still hadn’t replied to his messages. He asked his manager, “What time did my brother call you?”

“Just twenty minutes ago. I was so scared I dropped everything and came straight here. Nuonuo, should we hide for a bit first? President Fu wouldn’t have the heart to hit you, would he?”

Su Nuo: “…He wouldn’t.”

He couldn’t actually be going through menopause, right?

Seeing how calm the little young master was, the manager didn’t push it. After all, he still believed President Fu had the ultimate brother complex. Even if the little young master really had made him mad, he’d be won over in the end.

At the Fu Group, Su Nuo thought about what his manager said and hesitated. Instead of going straight to Fu Baihan’s office, he turned and knocked on the secretaries’ office door.

The secretaries were surprised to see him. “Little young master, what are you doing here?”

Now Su Nuo really thought something was off. Whenever he came to goof off at the Fu Group before, Fu Baihan always had the secretaries get snacks ready for him. Had he just not had time to tell them this time, or was he too angry to bother?

No, wait. What had he even done to make Fu Baihan mad? Nothing!

He asked nervously, “Is my brother really angry today?”

When other people asked about President Fu, they were up to something. When the little young master asked, it was just brotherly love. The secretaries had nothing to hide. “President Fu was in a good mood when he came in. We don’t know about after that.”

During the time when the little young master had just started school and was living in the dorms, working for President Fu had been hell on earth. But ever since the little young master moved back home, President Fu’s mood had been stable every single day, like a married man hurrying home to take care of his kid.

The fire extinguisher himself was right here. Why worry about President Fu being angry?

The secretaries’ office door opened. Fu Baihan stood in the doorway with a serious look. “Nuonuo, come here.”

Su Nuo smiled at the secretaries and went over to hook his arm through Fu Baihan’s. “Brother, what did you want to see me about?”

He didn’t get shaken off, so he relaxed. Okay. Crisis averted.

Su Nuo had plenty of experience getting on Fu Baihan’s good side. As long as he acted cute, Fu Baihan couldn’t do anything to him.

He still didn’t know what had happened, but he could use his little tricks first, just to be safe.

Feeling pleased with himself, Su Nuo followed Fu Baihan into his office, sat down on the sofa, and looked up at him. “Brother?”

Uh oh. That expression was even more serious than the time in high school when he got caught skipping class to hang out with friends.

Fu Baihan crouched down and sighed. “Two people came to the Fu Group today looking for me. They said they found out their younger son isn’t their biological child, and that their real son went missing eighteen years ago.”

Su Nuo’s heart skipped a beat. He said blankly, “I…”

Fu Baihan stroked his hair. “Sweetie, their surname is Su, and you look a lot like them. Do you want to meet them?”

“You don’t want me anymore, do you?” Su Nuo’s voice trembled, and his eyes instantly turned red. “You want me to leave?”

Fu Baihan leaned down and held him. “Sweetie, I’ll never, ever stop wanting you.”
